I’d say Oslo.

That’s the wild guess I took, given the times he was knocking around in.

Oslo was my first thought, then I remembered the US Virgin Islands were Danish until 1917 where St Croix has the capital of Christiansted

“used to be” is in the question.

I had a old framed print on my bedroom wall of Christiania that my father bought me back from Oslo, so that is pretty easy. In the 1970’s, the hippy alternative city in Oslo was also called Christiania, so the name lives on.

I suppose I d better help you out? The answer is Oslo. Christiansted in the then Danish West Indies, now sadly the US Virgin Islands, is also named after Christian V.

The hippie commune is still going strong. It’s not in Oslo, however but in Christianshavn. Which used to be a separate city but is now a part of Copenhagen. In Denmark, that is. And named for Christian IV.

Similarly , Oslo was a town near the capital, Kristiania. In 1925, the two towns had grown into one urbanisation and it was decided to go with the more native sounding name.

Anyway, the capital of the Danish West Indies was Charlotte Amalie in St Thomas.

Outside (current) Denmark, the towns named after C4 are Kristiansand in Norway as well as Kiristianstad (Scania) and Kristianopel (Blekinge) both for the time being in Sweden. Neither was ever a capital, although Kristianstad was the principal city of the eponymous county (län) before that was merged with Malmöhus län to form the current Region Skåne
