Just a linguistic thing

‘I discovered I have dozens, probably hundreds, of siblings’: Chrysta Bilton’s extraordinary family story

If there are hundreds of ’em then she’s not extra-ordinary, is she?

Daddy was a sperm donor, d’ye see? And I can recall at least one such story from the UK as well – there were no limits back when on the number that could be bred from the one bloke.

  1. Mother wanted children, dad wanted cash. So kids.

Can’t see a problem, since mum could afford it.

Still, the UK has cracked down on this. Since the kids can now find out who dad is and go for his wallet.

  2. I’d suggest that the vast majority of the population, tens of millions, have less than 5 siblings.

So those hundreds, perhaps thousands, of folks who have so many could legitimately be described as extraordinary.

Not sure it’s the word I’d choose, but “unusual” seems a bit mild and another alternative isn’t presenting itself to my heat-addled brain this morning.

  3. @SamVara: I thought stroppy teenagers believed that no matter how their egg got fertilised?

  4. I struggle to see how anything described by the author about her youth can be remotely described as “normal”..

The fact that her dad made money by flinging his sperm left and right is actually the only reasonable normal thing about it.

From the perspective of Bell curves, “Outlier” seems about the right word. Can’t imagine there are many humans that have sired hundreds of children.
