Music festivals have been accused of enabling “drive-by” misogyny because of the way they are set up and policed.
As Reading and Leeds festivals begin this bank holiday weekend, researchers are warning that organisers across the country are still not doing enough to protect women’s safety during these events.
100,00 metalheads gather to drink, party and take drugs. There’s misogyny.
We are surprised, right?
They’ve seen how some religions separate the sexes during religious events and think that should be applied to many other non-religious events.
Gather 100.000 people and Stuff will happen… Fact of life.
Mind… when it comes to “metalheads” the ladies are generally safe. Mostly because half of them are quite able to knock the teeth out of any lad with unwanted aspirations, and otherwise the reaction of the other lads tends to be swift and “brutal” when it comes to that kind of stuff.
There’s, of course, post-hangover regrets, but that kind of woo gets as little mercy as a would-be assaulter in that particular scene…
When it comes to events, the House/Dance and Hippie events are far more dangerous when it comes to unsolicited attention for ladies and lads.

“We are surprised, right?”
Well, some women are.
enabling “drive-by” misogyny
It’s about bloody time misogyny was made more convenient. I’m tired of having to walk places to oppress women.
Let the Aussies show you the way, organisers:

Mind you, you’d need to ensure you hired some very handy security staff…
Good lord, are there still 100,000 metalheads? What’s the average age?
That’s just tucked the nightclub model of giving women free/cheap entry so that it attracts men to ogle them whilst spending huge amounts on hideously marked up booze.
If all you can do is stand around and chat to your mates you may as well do it in the pub or at home. Why risk getting thrown out because some pissed up bird thinks it would be a laughtto make a starting allegation?
PJF – they have metal hips as well now
Good lord, are there still 100,000 metalheads? What’s the average age?
50s. And half of them are probably office workers.
100,00 metalheads gather to drink, party and take drugs.
Put 100,000 people together in one spot for any length of time – with or without drink and drugs – and you have risk.
Rule #1: If you think being somewhere is going to be unsafe, then make sure you aren’t there.
I think most festivals are now just glamping sites with extra entertainment for the boomers who missed out on Woodstock and the Isle of White. The only good thing you can say about modern festivals is that the boomers keep their clothes on. The last thing we need is frumpy boomers taking their clothes off and applying body paint like the drugged out darlings did back in the 60s.
As Grikath says
Metalheads, Goths and Bikers tend to be the least misoginistic of all cultures
Why? Because they are Freedom lovers
The fact they’re independant Freedom lovers is why they are attacked same as the millions who took part in unreported Freedom Rallies around UK and world
Same blackout now applied to Dutch and other farmers in EU and RoW
.
WEF / UN Great Reset? Still denied by establishment, inc Tooby Young, despite WEF’s website & youtube plus Prince Charles & Sunak confirming
.
@Timmy, less use of drugs by Metalheads, Goths and Bikers than ravers, rappers…. middle/upper class weed & coke heads, ‘the poor’. Money spent on ‘in group’ not drugs
Salamander,
“I think most festivals are now just glamping sites with extra entertainment for the boomers who missed out on Woodstock and the Isle of White.”
That depends on the festival. Glastonbury is a lot like that. Dance festivals are mostly kids having fun. Although they do the decent thing of separate day tickets and not much emphasis on camping. Honestly, after a day of listening to rock music, I want to do something else the next day.
The thing to me is that it’s always been the case that you look after girls around gigs. When I was growing up it was unheard of for them to go to gigs alone. A few years ago I took the girl next door to see Interpol after her parents asked if I’d chaperone her. They bought me a ticket and Interpol were good.
BTW Reading isn’t Reading Rock any longer with long haired metal types. It’s more indie, albeit more of the rock end of indie – I saw The Strokes, The Vines and The White Stripes at Reading.
