Rather revealing

Biden can still stop Trump, and Trumpism – if he can find a bold plan and moral vision
Robert Reich

That assumption that it’s the right person but the plan needs work. Rather than, say, here’s the plan for the country, now who’s the right person?

The other way of putting this being that there seems to be a certain tribalism supplanting policy in Me. Reich’s world view.

  1. Joe Biden be re-elected in 2024?

I’ll be amazed uf he lasts out the year. What a pranny this chap is.

  2. The strange notion that there is ‘a plan’ just sitting around in the wild which has to be hunted down, captured and put into harness.

It’s like that magic ‘radical reform’ that’s sitting round somewhere just waiting for someone to find it and use it to fix the NHS.

Management, leadership, government isn’t about plans it’s about competent people capable of intelligent thought, critical analysis, intellectual depth – problem solving not problem creating.

  3. Bloke in North Dorset

Watching the DNC and other Dem supporters struggling to figure out what to do about the 2024 presidential elections is almost the definition of Schadenfreude.

They rigged the primaries to get Biden, who they thought would be popular and do their bidding, then they selected a useless, cackling, woman who they thought would stitch up the black and women’s vote. What joy for them, until reality hit and both turned out to be utterly useless but refuse to budge.

Both are determined to run in 2024 so the DNC has to do something before then. They can’t get rid of Biden on his obvious health grounds because that would be Harris, an even bigger disaster. And if they somehow managed to remove them both that brings in Pelosi and she’s a wild card.

So while they figure this out have to live a a President who’s popularity rating is lower than Trump’s ever was and with Trump baiting them from the side-lines. Meanwhile we get to enjoy our popcorn.

  4. Sort of JB

To get stuff done as a politician you need an agenda, even better a strategy. It is sadly lacking however in the modern era. Atlee had one, so did Mrs T ( thanks to Keith Joseph pbuh) , even that shifty little crook Wilson sort of had one.

Blair had a plan, but didn’t think it through properly. When he came up against an intractable opponent ie our thousand year old consitution, he abandoned the plan and started invading places instead.

  5. Otto – I’ll be surprised if Joe is still breathing by 2024. Dementia is fun that way.

Then we’ll see think pieces from Robert Reich about how it’s racist and extremist and, candidly, Trumpian to only allow alive people to run for office. Since the living-impaired are already a key Democrat voting constituency, it’s high time Mortuary-Americans were represented in the White House.

  6. This bit is lol, especially if you can remember when milquetoast corporate conservatives like Mitt Romney were The Next Hitler:

the conventional thinking goes, Biden will be demolished by Donald Trump (or a Trump surrogate such as the Texas senator Ted Cruz or the Florida governor Ron DeSantis), thereby subjecting the US and the world to an even crazier authoritarian than Trump 1.0.

Even crazier and more authoritarian than Trump (who was already the Worst Man in History) – that’s like 3000 Putlers! Oyveyshutitdown.txt

  7. I think DeSantis will get the nomination – though a lot of water under bridges etc – but it wouldn’t surprise me if he lost, and to Biden, because it doesn’t matter that Biden is a broken shell of a husk of a moron of a sex pest of a fraudster of a scumbag, because he’s not really in control (very fucking obviously) and they will find a way to fix the election.

‘They’ have control of the media and social media, the FBI and other organs of state, and they are not going to give it up this time.

Trump was the wake up call.

  8. they will find a way to fix the election.

If the Republicans don’t immediately challenge every dodgy practice as soon as it is even suggested, we’ll know they are happy to be just the other cheek of the same corrupt uniparty arse.

  9. It’s odd how they always treat their candidate like a comic book hero who’s down and out, instead of an incompetent sleazeball who conned his way into the job and rarely even shows up to work.

  10. How the election goes will depend substantially on the Hispanic vote, especially the working class Hispanic vote. The Dems already lost white working class support, and their economic interests don’t differ all that much from those of the Hispanic working class.

  11. BBC has an article about the paradox of Bidens unpopularity given his legislative success. It seems like it should be a parody someone had snuck past the editors, but unfortunately it’s what counts as journalism at the BBC now

  12. It’s odd how they always treat their candidate like a comic book hero who’s down and out, instead of an incompetent sleazeball who conned his way into the job and rarely even shows up to work.

Are you talking about Trump or Pedo Joe here?

  13. It would be happy days if our politicians just fucked off and let the rest of us just get on with it.

  14. It would be happy days if our politicians just fucked off and let the rest of us just get on with it.

How would the big guy get his 10% then though?

You’re right of course, but as with all parasites, taken away from their host they wither and die, so they won’t do so without bloodshed and violence.

  15. The more I see and hear Reich – the more I wonder why anybody would pay him any heed in any way, shape or form – he’s a buffoon.
