Revealed, expressed

Preferences:

A poll of 1,077 college students conducted by NBC News and Generation Lab found that 30% of upcoming sophomores would probably or definitely switch schools if they were located in states that do not provide access to abortion.

Around 12% of upcoming sophomores say they would ‘definitely’ consider switching schools if the state government does not offer abortion access, while 18% said they “probably would.”

That’s a large number. We should also be able to see it only a year from now. So there’s a project for someone. Are college students full of shit or not?

    A couple of notes:

Mastery of one or more birth control options isn’t all that difficult. If the thought of having to do so makes you leave a college in one state and enroll in a college in a different state, chances are high that you’re a moron.

If your choice for higher education and career preparation is based on being able to spread your legs at will and without consequence, chances are high that you’re a moron.

Having morons flee your state to another is not a Bad Thing.

  2. 1. These students are completely full of shit. People will say all kinds of things when surveyed, and even the advertising industry relies on such polling to make their business decisions. Look at how people vote with their feet instead.

    2. I’d venture to guess most of these kids have their parents paying for university, or at least haven’t yet fully grasped the weight of student loans. Either way, it won’t be that easy for them to switch schools on a whim.

    3. If your kid told you they’d consider switching schools based on abortion laws, wouldn’t your first thought be, wtf are you planning on doing over there!?

  3. Does this also then act as a signal for men after university. “where did you study” translates to “are you a drunken slut?”. Meet a nice clean girl who went to Little Rock university. Or conversely, you know it’s going to take more than a couple of martinis to get her in the sack.

  4. So, then, all these students plan to put themselves in a situation in which they will need an abortion? How much time that might otherwise be spent studying or doing something useful does that take?

And just how difficult is it to cross state borders to get an abortion when you decide you need one?

  5. When/if they grow up they will threaten to move to Canada on a regular basis.

None of them will actually go (unless evading arrest).

  6. Yes Dennis, “If your choice for higher education and career preparation is based on being able to spread your legs at will and without consequence, chances are high that you’re a moron.” but you might turn out to be the next vice-president.

But only if you are a Democrat who can plausibly pass for African-American.

  8. @AndrewWS – “all these students plan to put themselves in a situation in which they will need an abortion?”

No. Just as you don’t plan on crashing your car when you buy motor insurance.

  9. Al-Beebra reports: Early at-home abortions made permanent in England and Wales

We really do deserve everything that’s coming to us. 😀

  10. It’s a prozy, or licpus test, for how liberal the state is, Tim.

Sarah Lawrence (65% fem) is famously the sluttiest campus in ‘merica but even alumnae send their daughters there. MIT is just down the road, by coincidence.

  11. Revealed vs Expressed?
Coming to England in early 2023 will be a test of this.
Councils will want to increase Council Tax by 5% or more which requires a local referendum, well done Bank Of England for fecking up on that inflation target and doing all that QE to pay people to not produce services.
Expressed – polls say people would willingly pay more tax to fund social care and childrens’ services
Revealed – well by March 2023 when the votes are counted then we will know.
