Hmm, well, gosh

This affair – in which two people have already pleaded guilty – is a very direct example of a prominent figure in the Maga movement lining their pockets with the money of unsuspecting marks. But it also stands as a metaphor for the movement as a whole. Far from standing up for the interests of “ordinary Americans”, Maga exists to funnel money, power and prestige to a small elite while not lifting a finger to improve the lives of anyone else.

So if that’s true then the inhabitants of the Kremlin getting special rations shows that socialism is all a con then too, right?

Anyone told Owen Jones yet?

  1. The border wall has endured as the ultimate symbol of Trumpism because the soul of his movement is racism and exclusion, not charity and assistance.

The Texans have solved this issue, by bussing the illegals to DC and Chicago, where they are rapturously welcomed. Winners all round. I’d say.

  2. Again this validates my contention that people tend to maximise what they perceive as their own personal advantage. And the people best at doing this are the ones rise to the top of any organisation. So you don’t get the best at furthering the aims of the organisation. You get the best at looking after their own interests.

Whereas the Democratic movement, as witnessed by Biden’s speech last week, is motivated by a spirit of inclusion and ‘anti- racism’ (unless you happen to be White of course)

One of the worst articles I have ever seen and when your other columnists include Owen Jones, Polly Toynbee and the Alien Rhiannon Lucy – Consett that is surely saying something…

He just described what politics are in general. “But it’s different when we do it,” basically.

  5. Now get the Dems to explain under oath how they became multi-millionaires on a government salary. Start with the evil goblin Fauci.

  6. Google reveals that Bidens net worth after a lifetime of devoted and straight-up honest service to his country is apparently a less than stellar $9m. What has the big guy been doing with all his 10% cuts? Very careless for such a switched-on individual if you ask me.

  7. The opening words are a felicitous warning not to read further: By all appearances, Steve Bannon likes to think…

  8. “This affair – in which two people have already pleaded guilty”

In US lawfare they always force some poor sod to cop a plea or accept that even if they don’t get found guilty at trial it will cost them all they have. No conclusion can be drawn from a guilty plea by a minor player.

  9. Let’s never look at the Clinton Foundation, or even The Office of Gordon and Sarah Brown then eh?

This is the difference between the GoP Establishment and the Dems – the Dems are prepared to use the power of the State to go after their opponents, the GoP Establishment just wants to lose gracefully. MAGA is a threat to their cosy arrangement, therefore it must be crushed.

  10. Apparently, the FBI simultaneously raided 35 people whose crime is being political allies of Donald J Trump.

So, in addition to being the world’s #1 sponsor of international terrorism, the US government is also terrorising its own people for exercising their constitutional rights. You can’t have even the pretence of free and fair elections when the political opposition is criminalised for existing.

I don’t think this is a stable situation, and notice that Septics of both political flavours are increasingly talking about Civil War 2* in a non-joking way.

*It’s not clear what the actual trigger for CW2 will be yet, but I think Appalachian extremists, crazed by extreme Trumpist ideologies such as the false claim – debunked by independent fact checkers – that there are only 2 genders, might beseige an Apple Store, or something. I don’t think Britain will support the goodies next time around either.

  11. At least in civil war one you could tell the grey states from the blue states and the uncommitted ones didn’t matter. In civil war two how will we know? Cities vs country? Coast vs flyover? Everywhere street vs street? MAGA vs uniparty?

  12. Further to my musings above, what does the proposed war look like to each side? I’m fairly well informed on what the conservative side thinks; We have all the guns and we will resist the organs of the feds when they try to impose the hypothetical last straw move on us. But how do the woke democrats see it? Do they see weaponized law enforcement doing the job for them? Or the armed forces with their F15s and nukes? Do they expect even to keep the cities against opportunist race-based violence? Do they not see why they should stop provoking their political enemies, the guys with all the guns?

  13. @Ted
Can’t help but wonder how many weaponised law enforcers the left could bring to the party, though. What’s the FBI worth in combat capable? Few hundred? It’s difficult to believe the police – who they’re keen on defunding – being loyal footsoldiers. The military at the grunts level?

  14. The problem with that, BiS, is that ever since Trump was in office, they have been doing their damnednest to undermine every institution going with woke idiology and those that follow it.

Everyone from Navy Seals to West Point to Nasa to the CIA & FBI have been so immersed in RightThink© that anyone not left of center has gotten out. Hence the difficulties they are now having recruiting suitable candidates for the Army. (Traditionally the backbone of the armed services were young Southern men for whom military service ran in the family).

I have absolutely zero doubt that despite whatever oath of alligiance they may have sworn to the Constitution or the American People, that American ‘public servants’ in the FBI or Army will do as they are damned well told, and if that means herding Deplorables into internment camps or worse, then a large proportion will happily go along with that.

  15. Recent survey had 40% of Americans polled agreeing that a civil war in the next decade was a serious possibility.
Pinch of salt as yes prime minister ably demonstrated how polls can be manipulated to get the answer you want, but can’t totally discount the number

  16. @BiB
It always comes down to the Mum of the guard on the palace gates. The left may have captured the officer classes. But the bloke with the rifle is the son of Mum.

  17. “Maga exists to funnel money, power and prestige to a small elite while not lifting a finger to improve the lives of anyone else.”

Didn’t Trump preside over some of the largest growth in employment for blacks and other non-whites that had been seen for decades?

  18. I’m inclined to think that each side understands the other so little that the risk of some action triggering the civil war quite unintentionally is fairly high. And a civil war involving the most heavily armed ‘peasantry’ in history will not go according to anybody’s plan. /naturally everyone will lose but I reckon the peasants will win at first but the uniparty will win the peace. Revolutions have one thing in common, the folks who do the fighting never end up in charge.
