At the last count you had blocked 20,000 people on Twitter and have thrown numerous people off this blog. Therefore would you not say your commitment to free speech is arguably at best ‘selective’?

Stop talking total nonsense – or your brother will be deeply embarrassed

I have blocked a tiny number of people on Twitter – for being offensive

The number blocked here is a few hundred over 16 years, for trolling nonsense

You’ve just joined them. I’ll let your brother know

Not sure why I thought I’d chance my arm as he had nominally blocked me about 7 years go for a discussion on disincentives (various East Germans and North Koreans made it through over the years and my other pseudonym goes undetected to this day)- but I had been having a bad day yesterday on top of a quite exhausting weekend, so his posing as some kind of ‘free speech martyr’ really got on my nerves to an unexpected degree. Also possibly compounded by the contrast between the dignity and grace of Queen Elizabeth II and the pygmy posturing of such a cretin.

Anyway, pleased I did post in the end. His response I think sums him up perfectly. Unable to tolerate any criticism even at the age of over 60 – as for informing my brother, a staunch Corbynite who I have blocked on almost every social media forum for over 3 years – I’m sure I’ll be devastated..

  2. I’m proud to claim the East Germans plus Florence Foster Jenkins. I doubt it was wise, V-P, to use a handle there that you use here if, as is suggested, he pops over here regularly for some light relief from the Kristallnacht of cogent argument that is his own site.

  3. VP – the “man” is obviously emotionally stunted with the mindset of a teenager – witness the accusations of fascist, throwing his toys out of the pram and being a snitch. He obviously used to watch the young ones and closely identified with rick and thought – yep that’s my role model. My only question to him would be “when did you stop wetting the bed?”

    Bummer!

who I have blocked on almost every social media forum for over 3 years

    Ah, it’s even more serious…

He knows my brother – that’s the relative that has in the past given me a copy of Murphy’s books as a ‘comedy’ Xmas present. They both work on the fringes of ‘academia’ so he has encountered him and evidently found a kindred spirit.

Sadly as things deteriorate I am convinced the near oracular Bloke in Spain may have it right. It’s Murphy’s world (although he hasn’t got the position of power he desires) but ideologically its his world – we only live in it…

It wasn’t too long ago that I wrote a description of Richard Murphy at this blog, and one of the things I wrote was that in a different place at a different time he’d be walking in the back door of a Black and Tan or Stasi headquarters with lists of names in his pocket.

The above quote simply confirms the correctness of that description.

  8. You’re probably right VP that Murphy and those like him are in the ascendant at the moment, but you’re doing a vital service on behalf of the next generation in holding him up for ridicule.

Free speech is only worth something if there are people willing to exercise it and defend it, and set an example for others.

When the pendulum hopefully swings back the other way with the youngsters, then we will see a new age of helictopters and lions…

  9. That reminds me – I have to rewatch `The Lives of Others`
Cracking film that and a salutory reminder of the kind of world that Murphy wants us to live in.
May have to re-read `Animal Farm` while I’m at it.

I did piggy back on ‘Erich Honecker’s comments with the rather more obscure (and less murderous) ‘Gunter Schabowski’ – I knew it was someone of this parish but not precisely who. I also knew it wasn’t until one of his sycophants pointed it out to him that his ego would lead him to look at ‘new’ commentators and put together one of his notorious posts relating to ‘trolls’….

Thanks – After your post I was recalling the excellent film ‘The Lives of Others’ – absolutely correct. Murphy would have been right at home in the Stasi as Dennis points out. Indeed one of the most loathsome characters is the ‘Minister of Culture’ – who with apologies to the actor in question (Who plays the part Brilliantly) bears something of a resemblance to Murphy.

Black and Tans were fighting terrorists who killed and maimed civilians. They were not Stasi
