And the value of this is?

Spud’s supervising a PhD now.

That’ll work well, right?

  1. It’s an interesting concept – you get supervised on a new form of financial reporting by someone with no knowledge of finance or accounting. There’s one born every minute.

  2. Bloke in North Dorset

Someone to do Spud’s legwork because he’s incapable and woe betide the poor sod if they start to come up with ideas that don’t support Spud’s preconceived conclusions.

  3. ummmm.. yaaaarppp…

Well.. You could conceivably do a PhD on that… Provided it isn’t presided over by Captain Potato.
Because the conclusion would be, as BiND states, that the results indicate that Spud’s notions are “unlikely, but more research is needed.”…

  4. Potato

But the unfortunate victim may well learn some useful skills suitable for a, “Do you want fries with that?” job.

  5. I love the way that the scope statement assumes that companies will try to get around the disclosures that the examiners require. Frankly a PhD which has a requirements’ statement seems a risible idea in itself. It’s hardly a new contribution to knowledge if it merely complies with a set of required findings

  6. I think he should be supervising the topic above that climate one in the list: “Interpersonal emotion regulation effectiveness”. Much more experience (of failing) in that field!

  7. How about a PhD in “converting pseudo-intellectual woke shite into intelligible english”

Sorry, can’t believe I just said that!

  8. Following the additional comments I read the description Having hastily covered it up when I saw the image of Murphy. I thought TJN had copyrighted the term ‘secrecy jurisdiction’ – given they are among the many former collaborators he has fallen out with is it worth getting them to ask him to cease and desist. Besides which given Norway was on their list it’s a term bereft of meaning. Reading through the whole thing I am reminded as much as 50% of research from U.K. higher education is read by no one whatsoever. This looks likely to join that mass of flotsam..

  9. Dennis, Pointing Out The Obvious

The fact that it’s a PhD on sustainable cost accounting means the candidate wasn’t worth a shit to begin with. And… Any candidate that spends 10 minutes with Murphy and then decides to do a PhD with him deserves anything and everything they get.

  10. And The Value Of This Is:

equivalent to voluntarily having an arm amputated before embarking on a career as a professional golfer

And The Value Of This Is:

If a PhD in sustainable cost accounting doesn’t prepare one for a career in the fast food, it should.

  12. You really really really really really really really do not want a PhD supervisor who doesn’t have a PhD. They can have no idea about the required rigour that goes into researching a writing up a thesis, let alone defending it against a panel.

    It’s horrible this idea.
