Oh Aye?

A jury concluded Tuesday that Kevin Spacey did not molest actor Anthony Rapp when Rapp was 14, while both were relatively unknown actors in Broadway plays in the 1980s.

The verdict in federal court in Manhattan brings to a conclusion a civil trial that was an outgrowth of the #MeToo movement. The lawsuit, based on 2017 claims by Rapp, sought $40m in damages.

Deliberations lasted just over an hour. When the verdict was read, Spacey dropped his head, and then hugged lawyers and others before leaving the courtroom.

What if the other cases all turn out this way too?

  1. Nearly all the MeToo movement cases are about people thinking that they can win millions now that their alleged perpetrator is a multi-millionaire.

  2. “Spacey…hugged lawyers and others”

    Uh-o.

He’s set himself up for a charge in 10 years’ time for inappropriate hugging.

  3. I wonder if he can claim damages at all since his acting career took a hit due to allegations not conviction.

  4. Richard Steigman, urged jurors to make Spacey pay for trying to make a sexual advance on Rapp in Spacey‘s Manhattan apartment in 1986 after a party

he said Spacey picked him up and briefly laid on top of him on a bed in his apartment. At the time, Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26. Rapp testified that he wriggled out and fled the apartment only to encounter an inebriated Spacey at the door asking if he was sure he wanted to leave

These are the terrifying ‘abuse’ allegations that Anthony Rapp ‘needed’ $40m to get over? Worse things happen in freshers week.

I knew he was gay, but there’s no need to also be a poof.

  5. Episode One – Party Rapp – 14 year old gay boy goes to adult party. Gets bored so goes into the gay host’s bedroom, lies on the bed watching TV. Falls asleep and wakes up after midnight to find all Party-goers have left leaving him ‘home alone’ with the rather drunk host.

    And then…

Watch Episode Two – The Revenge of Rapp – in 35 years time.

  6. “A jury concluded Tuesday that Kevin Spacey did not molest actor Anthony Rapp.”

More US debasement of our language imported by teenage scribblers.

    You might say something like

“A jury concluded Tuesday by all going off to bed for sex or w@nks” or

A jury concluded Tuesday had been a really boring day in Court”

  7. The jury concluded absolutely nothing about what happened. There’s no way to know for sure what happened back in the 80s, unless Anthony has some security camera footage or a police report from that night or something. Spacey could very well have done it and simply be good at lying (they’re both actors, after all). All the jury has decided is that the prosecution was unable to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.

The jury made the correct decision, and the one-hour deliberation period shows how obvious the decision was, but it says nothing about what actually happened.

That said, you don’t wait for the concept of hashtags to be invented 30 years later before accusing someone of such a serious offense. Dude’s likely just jealous and desperate for that $40 million. Think of all the days in between the alleged incident and now, all the times Anthony was stuck in traffic, eating at a restaurant, sitting on an airplane over those 30 years, when he could’ve realized “Hey, Kevin Spacey molested me, I better file a lawsuit.” Traumatized my ass.

By the way, this sexual assault charge was asking for only 4% of what Alex Jones is being ordered to pay for saying words.
