I’m not wholly sure about this

Velma, the freckled and bespectacled brainiac of the Mystery Gang, is officially a lesbian, according to an Instagram reply by Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated producer Tony Cervone. “I obviously don’t represent every version of Velma Dinkley, but I am one of the key people that represents this one,” Cervone wrote of the series that premiered in 2010. “We made our intentions as clear as we could ten years ago.” Longtime Velma fans reacted with enthusiasm to the news.

So the fat ginger in glasses is the lesbian, eh?

Isn’t that just sticking it to the patriarchy.

  1. Dennis, Cishet and Whatnot

    A cartoon.
A cartoon that is more than 50 years old.
And features a talking Great Dane.

Tony Cervone is talking out his ass and deserves to be laughed off whatever stage he is on.

  2. Dennis, Cranky As All Get Out

No doubt Mr. Cervone considers himself to be quite brave.

To which I say: I blow my nose at you, so-called Tony Cervone, you and all your silly woke k-nnnnniggets.

  3. She had a male love interest in the second film 🙂

Oh well, I suppose it’s all the fault of the patriarchy somewhere!

  4. I’ve seen one cartoon ( no it wasnt a porn version ) where Scooby catches Velma and Shaggy snoggng. Also in a crossover she tries to score with Johnny Bravo.

Although Velma and Daphne getting it on would be pretty phwoar.

  5. >Spoilers<
Apparently develops feelings for Marchie Fleach (aka Hot Dog Water) after having been dumped by Shaggy, when she gave him the ultimatum to pick her or Scooby, and he chooses the talking dog. Which has been discussed on fan sites (of course Scooby Doo* has fan sites) since the Mystery Inc series first aired. So not really news.
Also, to be fair, Velma's not exactly fat – she wears a thick jumper and hangs around with other kids that are atypically tall and thin.

*It has more realistic plots and better acting than most things on TV nowadays

  6. Bloke in the Fourth Reich

In the great majority of cinematic portrayals of lesbianism, the, ahem, leading ladies, are more of the glamorous type. So I am told.

  7. Ah…. Velma Dinkley and Rule 34.. If you take that as a reference she’s pretty much into anything.
And easily one of the most popular ..classic subjects..

  8. If they’re marketing making Velma les – which, let’s face it, has been a meme for 50 years just like Batman and Robin – then they’re indicating that they do not have any confidence in the *quality* of their product.

Which makes sense – they’re so out of touch that they think making Velma les is some shocker that’ll get the straights in a tizzy.

It’s also a sign of them preparing the standard pre-emptive defense – you white manbabies couldn’t handle it.

  9. I was looking through the characters of He Man, just now, wondering what a one on one smackdown in a huge tub of Angel Delight between the Sorceress and Evil-Lyn would work out. One of the minor characers that passed me by as a lad was called Fisto, which is a jolly unfortunate name in this context…
