Given the sorta stuff I have to read (Cosmo, 17, Bustle, etc) for some American work this was confusing me:
Dua Lipa Is Granted Albanian Citizenship
Oh – a person? Given the subject matter at such outlets I’d been thinking it was a labial technique or something.
See also Rita Ora.
I thought it it was some sort of vile orange flavoured drink.

Are you sure she isn’t?
As a Londoner she doesn’t have to travel far to celebrate her national day.

It’s Albanian for “A pair of kangaroos”.
First time I’ve ever heard of anyone admit to being Albanian.

They probably have difficulty learning Spanish (it’s easier for Romanians).
Last time I took a taxi (several months ago) the driver told us that he was Albanian – politely vehement about the need to cut down on benefits for immigrants as a way of discouraging work-shy economic migrants.
This is unfair. Dua Lipa is brilliant at what she does, modern dance pop music, is extremely personable and friendly in interviews and sounds *amazingly* posh 🙂 I say good luck to her.

Don’t they usually pretend to be Italian?
I’m a bit puzzled about this story. Dua Lipa’s parents are both Albanian, so it seems she should be Albanian already (see https://www.hg.org/legal-articles/new-law-on-albanian-citizenship–57333) though maybe the law was changed since she was born and originally required birth in Albania – if so such a high profile recognition of citizenship might be intended to encourage other born abroad to claim their citizenship too.
