Hmm, well, stereotype or what?

He said he first became involved with the charity in 2010, as a 15-year-old in foster care, before cutting ties as a 17-year-old.

Mr Cowie claimed that while at first he had felt positive towards what he then saw as “friendly and nurturing” staff, he now believes he was groomed by older men.

He claimed that a staff member “made me show him my torso in the bathroom” and that his exposure to gay nightclubs as a child had led to him being exposed to much older men who offered money for sex.

Another man claimed that he had first been in contact with the charity as a 13 or 14-year-old, for support as a gay teenager in Edinburgh, and believed it had been “more like a social network to connect older men with teenagers”.

In 2009, James Rennie, LGBT Youth Scotland’s former chief executive, was convicted of being a ringleader of Scotland’s biggest paedophile network.

The problem with stereotypes is that there’s often a grain of truth in them – that’s how they become stereotypes.

  1. Young man, there’s a place you can go
I said, young man, when you’re short on your dough
You can stay there and I’m sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time

    Well colour me surprised.

  2. LGBT Youth Scotland, which last year received almost £400,000 in taxpayers’ cash from the SNP Government and more than £250,000 from councils

In 2009, James Rennie, LGBT Youth Scotland’s former chief executive, was convicted of being a ringleader of Scotland’s biggest paedophile network

The SNP knew, and they gave them hundreds of thousands of pounds.

What else do you reckon is going on up there in shortbread tin Carcosa, little priest?

  3. Young man! You’re a teen and confused
I said, young man! Come here and get abused!
You can mix with other juvenile Jocks
And we’ll show you lots of older men’s cocks!

A special Scottish type of LGBT!
Ben Doon and Phil McCrevice type of LGBT!
Eventually you’ll find that our charity’s a farce
To bad ‘cos we’ve fucked your arse!

  4. So the CEO was convicted of being a paedo in 2009 and they have now gotten around to thinking there may have been a problem. An attempt at damage control to limit the scope of the accusations maybe?
It is concerning that the ‘we shouldn’t listen to the stereotypes’ could lead to the type of turning a blind eye that led to the sex gangs in Rotherham and other places

  5. As an example of turning a blind eye nothing on the BBC news site about this, even if you go to the Scotland section

  6. Bloke in North Dorset

    Completely OT

    @Otto,

Further to the comments a few weeks ago about declining church health tax payers in Germany.

    “ Empty churches for Christmas

    This is a cultural landslide

Even at Christmas, believers slip away from the churches. The number of non-denominational people is constantly growing. The sociologist of religion Detlef Pollack speaks of a “tilting point”. What does this mean for society?”

(Machine translations, I haven’t checked it).

  7. BiND – I was at an Anglican service a few days ago. The priest literally had a PowerPoint presentation to show the maybe 8 people who turned up to sing naff modern carols in his freezing cold church.

His presentation was about global warming.

  8. It’s a slippery slope. Today global warming, tomorrow the fires of hell. In a few billion years the sun will become a red giant and swallow us all up. Something must be done. By an Act of Parliament, or Royal Commission, or Executive Order. Today.

  9. The problem with stereotypes is that there’s often a grain of truth in them…

More than a grain – a heaping helping. Stereotype validity is the great shame of sociology; the stereotypes are politically incorrect, so they must be denied.
