Not quite getting it

Tax fraud verdict again exposes illusion of Trump the master businessman

NYC real estate is a ghastly cesspit of politics. Union and city politics, grossly intertwined. That’s what Trump is good at negotiating through.

It’s not a business like others at all.

  1. It’s a bullshit prosecution.

The conviction is for a business practice that is common, and up till now ignored.

  2. If all this chipping away by the swamp eventually prevents DJT from running again in 2024 it will be an own goal for the ages leaving a clear path for DeSantis47.

  3. In which case he is more qualified to be Potus than we thought after successfully navigating this type of waterway for some time.

  4. Often the boundary between tax evasion (i.e. fraud) and tax avoidance is very vague. It may need a court to decide if an interpretation of the law has put them on the wrong side of the line.

  5. Obviously the senile gerontological regime in Washington wants to either jail or kill Trump, because the USA is a laughable, shitty banana republic that won’t last till the middle of this century before it mercifully explodes like a smelly pinata that’s overstuffed with debt and Mexicans, but that’s not the interesting bit.

The interesting bit is figuring out why it’s psychologically necessary for journos to lie to us constantly, and gratuitously, the way journos and people with narcissistic personality disorders do.

Trump make a fortune in NYC real estate, but terminally gayfaced journos must, for some reason, pretend he didn’t, or pretend it was all a big con, or a dream, or something.

People whose main achievement in life is successfully choosing Twitter pronouns on their smartphone would like you to believe they’re more accomplished than the guy with his name on skyscrapers.

  6. The evil capitalist crook appears to have been convicted of paying his employees too much money. So the state in its majesty will take some more.

  7. The tax con had nothing to do with city politics or real estate. Just a little cheating. He’ll shrug and move on and so will his supporters.

Steve, I think the usual argument is he took a large fortune from his father and either shrank it or didn’t grow it much. On the crap headline and lying journos, I agree.

  8. Bearing in mind that Trump has had 40 years in NYC real estate, it is remarkably they have found so little on him. It is a market where erm… “sharp practice” is the norm and where (in construction) the mob are still very active.

I suspect the reason isn’t that Trump is surprisingly honest, but that the Dems decided to focus for so long on shit they’d made up.

So proclaims the Guardian soy boy who taps on computer keys and draws a salary for a living.

Of course, he could make a billion if he put his mind to it, but that would be in bad taste.

  10. Go look at Youtube for “Louis Rossman” to see what a small businessman goes through in NYC, then multiply that.

It’s a cesspool. That Trump has lost so few tax fights is an indication of being as honest as you can be there.

The end is nigh again. Though 28 years is sufficiently far away for [email protected]

Despite your enthusiasm I suspect the USA will crassly blunder past that barrier to celebrate its tricentennial. Even the B52s will still be flying in ’52.

It’s that heady mix of ideology/religion and cultish group behaviour. Everything must be in the context of The Narrative because The Narrative is Truth (and fuck you if you don’t believe, outsider subhuman heretic). Humans are wonderful. But see also cunts.

Dunno.. The Byzantine empire lasted for a 1000 years before the Ottomans put it out if it’s misery, and they put the D in decadent and C in Corrupt… So…

  13. You have a point Grikath. Indeed I’d argue that the early empire had to develop the necessary decadence and corruption to last that long.

  14. @ Napsjam
The Ian Hislop argument is that Donald Trump has now got marginally less money than if he had just sat quietly and allowed his inheritance from his father to grow in line with the S&P index.
The sat quietly includes living on stale bread and gruel for fifty-odd years – instead of high living, marrying and pampering beautiful and expensive women, having five children, owning several expensive estates/apartments and golf courses, running political campaigns …

  15. Or because Trump wasa registered Democrat for most of his adult life?

Even the spectacularly biased Wikipedia entry for him admits he was registered as a democrat only between 2001 and 2009.
