Officially, the Lensa AI app creates “magic avatars” that turn a user’s selfies into lushly-stylized works of art. It’s been touted by celebrities such as Chance the Rapper, Tommy Dorfman, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Britney Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari. But for many women the app does more than just spit out a pretty picture: the final results are highly sexualized, padding women’s breasts and turning their bodies into hourglass physiques.
“Is it just me or are these AI selfie generator apps perpetuating misogyny?” tweeted Brandee Barker, a feminist and advocate who has worked in the tech industry.
Misogyny is “hatred of women”. Women looking sexually attractive (the actual complaint here) is not misogyny.
It’s just you, Love.
I’ve seen AI ‘enhancements’ of male selfies too. They tend to end up as muscle boosted Vikings or warriors. Obviously not misogyny, but you could argue that it is misandry – if anyone could be bothered.
isn’t the term “hourglass” a little bit colonial? Asking for a friend.
Name sounds familiar. Isn’t Brandee a bloke?
’…celebrities such as Chance the Rapper, Tommy Dorfman, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Britney Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari.’
*looks up the term ‘celebrity’ in dictionary*
Huh!
celebrities such as Chance the Rapper, Tommy Dorfman
Hi, I’m Troy McClure. You may remember me from such films as The Erotic Adventures of Hercules, and Dial M for Murderousness!
Being utterly ignorant, can anyone tell me how you can produce a pretty picture of a woman that doesn’t look sexy??
Surely there’s a market for an app that turns pictures of attractive sexy women into sour-faced Guardian lezzas?
“Fear no girl, whatever her cup size;
Call on me, and I’ll equalise!”
Presumably modern women hate flattery.
Rather, some modern women tell other modern women they should hate flattery. For the sisterhood, or something.

Ellen Page went for it.
Sour grapes for the app not working on her.
It is quite remarkable what some women’s self images are. Worth looking at Tinder. Many of them have used the skin blemish remover app so heavily they look like cartoon characters or inflatable dolls. But this is apparently how they wish to present themselves to the world.
Searched for this app and got this doozy of a headline. “ I tried the AI photo app everyone was using. As someone with a history of disordered body image, it was very triggering to see the results.”
Article is fun too.

Jimmers… “Fun” in a “I project my psychotic anxiety onto the rest of the world” kinda “fun” , then…
Jimmers, from your link: “They did warn us that heroin chic was back.”
It’s about bloody time. Too many fatties around, especially since lockdown.
