And Bingo Is His Name O

Church of England’s first non-binary vicar says God ‘guided’ their identity
Gender-queer Rev Bingo Allison claims their journey through priesthood completely changed their conservative outlook on life

Her Name O

Their Name O

Um, summat.

Genderqueer is an umbrella term with a similar meaning to non-binary. It can be used to describe binary cisgender and transgender people within the LGBT+ community who feel that they have a queer or non-normative experience with their gender. It can also be used to describe any gender identities other than man and woman, thus outside of the gender binary.

Non-binary (also called enby or at times shortened down to NB) describes any gender identity which does not fit the male and female binary spectrum.

So, Speshul then.

Rev Allison, who is a parent of three children,

Tad coy.

Rev Allison also uses social media to help spread their message. In an Instagram account featuring pictures of Rev Allison wearing an array of colourful clothes and make-up, one photo, posted in Feb 2020, showed them posing with a purple hairband and eyeshadow with the caption: “Going to church because Jesus loves sparkly eyeshadow. #girlslikeus #transisbeautiful #nonbinary #eyeshadow”.

Ah.

Father of three kids who likes the dressing up bit of the priesthood perhaps. Robes, eh?

  1. Meanwhile in 2022:-

Black conservative trainee vicar ‘blocked’ from joining Church of England over ‘anti-woke views’
Political pundit Calvin Robinson is known for his Right-wing views, which include suggesting women should not be ordained

Proving yet again that the CoE is a microcosm of today’s society and not in a good way.

  3. WTF is a “normative experience”? Yes, there are common experiences in anything, but unless the human race has turned into a regimented phalanx of clones having exactly the same experience at all times while my back was turned, banging on about non-normative experience is bullshit jargon that really means exactly what jgh said.

  4. What is it about Thai ladyboys that means they make convincing women, while over here, Caucasians look like a rugby prop forward fell into a drunken stupor and his teammates went wild with the barmaid’s make up kit?

  5. Nice little story from when my wife was training for the priesthood.

One evening the college choir were practising some difficult liturgical piece when the choir-master (I know, I know…) decided that they could follow the music better if he changed the layout.

“Could I ask that you arrange yourselves so that the men are standing on the left of the chancel, and the women on the right?”

At this point, one of the ordinands objected. Let’s call her Julie. She looked, dressed, and walked like a comedy lesbian – think of a little fat bloke working down the local KwiK-Fit – and lived with another woman. She’s now a parish priest and likes to be called “Father Julie”.

Anyway, Julie loudly interrupted and took the choir-master off to one side for a good talking-to. They returned, and he, somewhat ashen, apologised to the choir.

“I’m sorry that I thoughtlessly assumed that everyone here self-identifies as a man or a woman. It was thoughtless of me, and potentially very harmful, to impose my stereotypes on people. What I should have said, of course, is that I would like the tenors and basses to stand on the left hand side of the chancel, and the altos and sopranos on the right”.

Job done, Julie walked over to the right and stood with the sopranos.

  6. ‘Caucasians look like a rugby prop’. Neanderthal genes Julia??

Though now I think of it I understand the Thais are a bit Denisovan.

  7. Our previous local youngish vicar was relatively normal (and good) looking. It was her husband that was the purple haired, shaved one side, doc martin wearing weirdo, which required a little practice to pretend he didn’t exist, but eventually everyone managed it. Current one is nice but in comparison old and yorkshire and given to sounding morose even when proclaiming the good news.

  8. One problem with the pronoun “they” is it can easily cause ambiguity. A person using such pronouns died, and in the news report: “Our thoughts go out to Hale’s family and friends at this difficult time – may they rest in peace.”
