Oh Aye?

A second batch of classified documents belonging to Joe Biden, which were removed from the White House when he was vice president, has been discovered.

It appeared to mark an escalation of the problem for Mr Biden.

He has previously castigated Donald Trump as “irresponsible” after classified documents were recovered in an FBI raid at Mr Trump’s post-presidential home and office in Florida.

A prediction. I’ve already seen swathe of articles from dutiful little political commentators across the US press. This is very different, of course it is, how could anyone think it’s the same? I now predict a redoubling.

Because of course it is different. Biden is D, Trump is R, and that’s different, right?

  1. Was the US election rigged?
Absolutely!, YES!, Definitely! Said the Dems. 2016.
    Was the election rigged?
No! Fool! Conspiracy theorist! Disinformation! The US meeja + the Dems , 2020

  2. It must be great to be able to instruct your own lawyers to do the searching and then decide whether anything they find was wrong.

The actual documents may be highly important, they may not. The point is that during the Trump presidency in addition to a newly-sworn in congress redesigning its committees from day one as a tool to seek impeachments we saw a whole slew of politicised “process crimes” being vigorously prosecuted against his associates while similar indiscretions by the other side were either ignored or resulted in a mild slap on the wrist. Only a complete fool would expect anything different in this case. Mild embarrassment at worse for a president who has already redefined the term.

Eric Holder used to boast about being Obama’s wingman. Biden has the entire DOJ, the security services, 98% of the worlds media and a significant and influential section of the Republican Party watching his back.

  3. Interesting theory Ljh.

Now that 2 years have passed since the inauguration I believe it is possible for him to be replaced by the VP who would still be eligible to serve for a further 2 full terms after 2024.

There’s just one problem with that………….

(Actually there’s 2. Should anything untoward then happen to the VP the next in line for president would be speaker of the house Kevin McCarthy).

If only the Republican had gone along with Matt Gaetz’s suggestion and elected Speaker Trump).

  4. Joy Behar said exactly that on The View:

We all know that Trump is a liar and a thief. We know that. So it’s not that big a jump to say that he obstructed and he lied. We don’t think Biden is a liar and a thief, so we give him the benefit of the doubt.

Doesn’t the new POTUS get to appoint a new Veep as soon as they are appointed? In which case McCarthy remains 3rd in line.

The biggest problem the Dems have been facing for a while is how to replace Harris, she’s their biggest problem in their succession planning. Joe is easy to get rid of, there’s any number of things that would make it easy for him to be resigned.

  6. I’m sure that’s true BiND. Even so the self-serving Harris would presumably be looking for a veep who is a minimal threat by being even more obviously inept than herself. Stacey Abrams, a lady with Izzard-like powers of electability, springs to mind.

The actual power brokers would have a very different short-list.

  7. “Doesn’t the new POTUS get to appoint a new Veep as soon as they are appointed?”

‘Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.’ Har har.

  8. I assumed that they want to make sure Biden doesn’t get any ideas about running again and it conveniently means they can’t be accused of targeting Trump if they use the confidential documents issue to stop him running as Biden will set the precedent.
Alternatively Biden isn’t going to run anyway so setting up a situation using him is no loss if it lets them get Trump on the same charge

  9. During the 2020 campaign, it came out that then-Senator Biden sexually assaulted his then-intern, Tara Reade, in 1993. Unlike most rape allegations, this one was reported shortly after the incident. Forms were filled out with the office personnel, and she cited issues with sexual harassment at work in the restraining order against her ex-husband in 1996. That same year, Reade reported the incident to her neighbor, and Reade’s mother called into Larry King Live to anonymously mention that her daughter had been molested by a “high-profile” politician. Keep in mind, only a few years before, in 1991, Biden was known for grilling now-Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. He was not a senator to fuck around with if you valued your reputation.

Fast-forward to 2020, and Biden is being interviewed by Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC, and he’s handling it about as well as Prince Andrew on the BBC. You can watch the interview on YouTube, and the body language alone is concerning. Anyway, one major question was asked about the location of the 1993 complaint filed by Reade. It was suggested that it is now filed at the University of Delaware, and that he should allow for the release of all personnel files if there is nothing to hide.

Biden’s argument was basically, “Well there isn’t anything incriminating in there, so why bother looking?” Highly suspect answer.

So, when it comes to these classified documents, I was expecting the new batch to be found in such a location. Apparently, he pulled a Hillary and stored them unprotected in a garage. It remains to be seen what the FBI decides to do with Trump, but clearly there’s a double standard. Hillary had over 30,000 emails worth of classified information, and all she had to do was plead ignorance and whine “What difference at this point does it make?” to get a slap on the wrist.

    Thanks dearime,

Looks like the R/s will be incentivised to fight all nominees and impeach Harris..

Looks like Ds are digging themselves a very deep hole.

  11. I think that’s the problem with Harris, if they can get her to impeachment the chances of her handling a hearing well and not coming out of it looking like a train wreck are pretty low
Impeaching Trump always seemed pointless to me as it just allowed him to prove a point that they were out to get him and the chances of him falling apart and alienating his own base were slim to say the least
