Woke battle about nothing, then this is said:
When responding to criticism from some academics, Ms Taylor told The Mail on Sunday: “There is a certainly a segment of people, who often present as white men, who question the guide.”
Present? Not are? They’re so cranially involved in their own colons they can’t see what they’re doing to their own arguments. If the white male racist patriarchy is only a matter of presentation then all we’ve got to do to rid ourselves of it is gain our gender and race recognition change certificates and we’re done. Because by the definitions being used then the thing being complained about – the oppressive power structure – will have gone away.
Either it is actually white and male oppression that causes all societal ills, that common enough insistence, or if it’s only people presenting as such then it all disappears with a piece of paperwork, doesn’t it?
Should I ever be unlucky enough to run into one of these language mangling idiots, I will point out that “not bad” is traditional English understatement and that trying to prevent its use is hegemonic cultural oppression denying my heritage.
She then suggested more “positive” alternatives, such as […] “killing two birds with one stone” becoming “feeding two birds with one scone”.
So the irritating bossy-boots can’t pronounce “scone” correctly (regional preferences may differ) and knows nothing about birds and their feeding – seagulls insist on clotted cream and jam with their scones.
“Making the first pass at” instead of “taking a stab at” is surely sexist, oppressive and oppressively sexist so expect a perpetual series of revisions.
@The Meissen Bison
“feeding two birds with one scone” sounds like a cheap date to me. Bring it on.
Perhaps the author of the guide should be “invited to the lions lunch”
“There is a certainly a segment of people, who often present as white men, who question the guide.”
Yet, when I present as BOB, the immortal spirit of evil from the Black Lodge, nobody’s happy.
Bollocks.
@Jimmers… They’ll probably eat them as well!
I wonder whether Ms Taylor is in favour of sending arms to Ukraine?
But if I feed the birds there’ll be more of them. The entire object of the excersice is to get rid of them.
When they see us coming
The birdies all try and hide
But they still go for peanuts
When coated with cyanide
The sun’s shining bright
Everything seems all right
When we’re poisoning pigeons in the park
The immortal (apparently) Tom Lehrer
“Making the first pass at” instead of “taking a stab at” is advocating unwanted sexual advances. The implication is that there might be more than one pass, presumably after the first has been rejected.
