When Emma Corrin shared hopes of starring in a “gritty” Scottish film with “an outrageous accent” it seemed she simply wanted a change from playing the upper crust young Princess Diana in The Crown.
However, now the Netflix star has been accused by a fellow actress of “working class tourism”.
Jessica Barden, best known as the rebellious teenager Alyssa in the Channel 4 comedy drama The End of the F***ing World, said “posh actors” should not stray into depicting characters from poorer backgrounds like her own.
Mustn’t do dress down, of course. That would be a gross violation of all that it means to be an actor.
Gonna be difficult doing all those historical romances as there are very few actual Dukes and Viscounts in the profession.
Hamlet may only be played by Danish princes whose father was poisoned by their mother and uncle.
“Exit, pursued by a bear” is getting both expensive and dangerous to stage authentically.
Gonna kill off Dr Who, there aren’t many time-travelling aliens in the acting profession.
Dr Who was killed off in 1989. The newer series you might be referring to just has a similar name.

“She’s a bigger headliner than me and she is taking my job!!”

The Earl of Portland has played a leading role in The Archers (rum-ti-tum-ti-tum-ti-tum) for many years.
“ very few actual Dukes and Viscounts in the profession”
Yes, the highest ranking in the profession that I’ve heard of is, as Chris Miller said, the Earl of Portland (who also did “mind the gap” for the Tube).
There’s an hereditary Baron who was in The Princess Bride, and I think the oddly attractive Tilda Swinton’s father is a Laird, but I’ve not heard of any others. Ralph Fiennes and Benedict Cumberbatch are from posh families but aren’t titled.
