It’s the other buggers, right?

When discussing UK gender inequality we get estimates of it’ll take 20 years, or 50 years, at this rate.

Global progress on women’s rights is “vanishing before our eyes”, the secretary general of the UN, António Guterres, has warned, saying the increasingly distant goal of gender equality will take another three centuries to achieve.

“Gender equality is growing more distant. On the current track, UN Women puts it 300 years away,” Guterres said in a general assembly speech ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, as he launched two weeks of discussions led by the Commission on the Status of Women.

If globally it’s to take 300 years then we’re doing really well, right? It’s the other buggers fucking up the global average then.

  1. “Gender equality is growing more distant. On the current track, UN Women puts it 300 years away,”

So, they’re predicting the death of Islam within the next 300 years then? Because without that happening there is zero chance of “Gender equality” as the current attacks on girls and women in Iran illustrates.

Somebody’s either lying or deluding themselves.

  2. When can we expect to see the likes of Antonio Guterres doing their bit by standing down in favour of wimmin?

Probably in about 300 years time.

  3. Hmmm

Given the assault on women’s rights mounted by the transgender lobby this is hardly surprising

  4. International Women’s Day on 8 March

Do they mean International Adult Human Female Day? If not, they’re part of the problem.

  5. Why is Ms Guardianista telling foreigners how to live their lives in their own countries?
Don’t she know the empire is a thing of the past (and the Guardian never stops complaining about its ills) ?

How did that experiment in Afghanistan on women’s rights, education and employment work out?

  6. We can’t get “equality” between men and women, despite about a century of trying, vast amounts of money spent, and entire forests transformed into equality legislation.

But don’t worry, we sure can control the weather if you pay a lot more tax.

  7. Wut? Is he expecting all the Abrahamics to give up a central part of their belief?
That’ll go down well with those who flip out their rugs several times a day…

  8. Well Tim. It’s interesting to see the other buggers have more sense than we do about this one.
