America awoke on Tuesday ready to face a day of ignominy as its former head of state will be hauled before a court, leaving an indelible stain on the nation.
Jeez, suppose so. The same is that after all that digging – decades in New York real estate for the Lord’s sake – the worst they could find was paying off a porn star.
The true shame being the shamelessness with which the pursuit of someone inconvenient to the political plan was undertaken.
Strange how no-one seems to mention France’s ‘indelible shame’, after Chirac got sentenced to two years suspended.
The true shame being the shamelessness with which the pursuit of someone inconvenient to the political plan was undertaken.
They literally just convicted a guy of spreading funny jokes about Hillary Clinton on the internet.
Trump has some measure of protection because he’s still a billionaire, but ordinary Americans can no longer depend on any of their supposed constitutional rights.
Federal harassment, long jail terms without charge, process crimes and blatant, politically motivated redefinitions of facts and laws to secure desired convictions are now SOP in the Land of the Free.
Funny how their condemnation of immorality doesn’t extend to the Kennedys and MLK.
It may be politically astute. When DJT wins the next election, it will be harder for him to indict the Biden Family because DJT could be accused of petty revenge against a long (self) serving public figure.
Just as well Democrat presidents don’t do sex.
So Jill, Michelle and Hillary tell me…
As others have noted, the US has been turned into an extremely wealthy banana republic.
Trump has picked up $7 million in donations since the indictment and it appears many Americans can see the prosecution for what it really is, political persecution. Go Trump 2024.
Ian Collins, the TalkTV presenter (who I initially thought was pretty sane but has shown a couple of times he is a div) can’t understand why people in the UK who don’t know Trump personally think he is being unfairly targetted.
I wonder if he would have thought the same about those who supported Nelson Mandela, MLK, Aung Sang Suu Kyi, Ghandi, et al.
It does give new meaning to the phrase “Trumped-up charges” though…
@Addolff
Is the US extremely wealthy? I’d say it is extremely broke, and on a Cresta run slide to the brokest brokeness ever.
Re Trump, I dunno. It seems at least possible to me that this is all designed to shut out Desantis, who strikes me as sane, intelligent, young, and mentally strong enough to reject the worst of the Covid bullshit, and is thus the genuine threat to the deep state.
Trump is more likely to stir up the oppo, and even if he gets in is old enough, dumb enough, egotistical enough and politically unworldly ernough to be hopelessly outmanouevred in office (again).
Plan B is obviously to demonise Desantis as worse than Trump/Hitler, and thast process has already begun.
As others have noted, the US has been turned into an extremely wealthy banana republic.
Yes, but not for long. $30 trillions in debt and rapidly approaching a Third World supermajority. If the Biden regime resembles a looting party, it’s because it is.
By the middle of this century, big-hearted Chinese people will be sending rice to the starving Americans.
Biden may be doing long-term damage, however America remains considerably more dynamic and business-like than Europe. Besides that, the Federal structure allows different States to take different paths. Florida and Texas are growing at the expense of New York and California, and this trend will continue.
Can’t disagree with Interested on Desantis v Trump though.

I see no reason why this is De Santis’ only shot at the Presidency. He’s only 44. If I was him I’d not run this time, and let Trump have his Death Ride against all the forces arrayed against him. Keep well away from it all. Endorse Trump but lukewarmly. Don’t campaign for him much, if at all. Keep my head down, and see what happens. If Trump wins then there is another shot in 2028. Ditto if Trump loses to Biden (assuming Biden is the candidate, and at the moment there’s no sign of anyone else being put up).
I can only see downside for De Santis taking on a bitch fight with Trump for the candidacy, which even if he won would have weakened him for the fight against the Deep State that awaits during the Presidential campaign and after should he win that. De Santis is by far the leading Republican candidate for President other than Trump, he would wipe the floor with any other candidates. Trump is a wrecking ball De Santis should avoid, not take head on.
Jack – Texas and Florida are also being overrun by Californians and Mexicans, who overwhelmingly vote D.
Texas is already starting to come into play for the Democrats, it’ll be a reliable blue state within 20 years if the USA makes it that long.
In addition to the chip wars and economic sanctions, the US seems to be seriously planning war with China before the end of this decade. They will lose, and that will mark the formal end of the American experiment.
Israel better be looking for a new sugar daddy.
Think you’re a bit behind the times with the latinos, Steve. The ones settling in TX & FL aren’t the recent border jumpers. They’re the latino strivers. Their new middle-class.
“Jack – Texas and Florida are also being overrun by Californians and Mexicans, who overwhelmingly vote D.”
That was the theory, with 2016 being the last time the Republicans could win in Florida. The reverse has happened.
Addolff:
– Go Trump 2024.
If there’s any design beyond reflex “get Trump”, I’d imagine that it’s a desire for a rematch of 2020. Trump is the one proven to be able to lose to Biden (who’ll be the Dem candidate unless he dies or goes undeniably gaga (for some measure of undeniable)).
Steve:
– Yes, but not for long. $30 trillions in debt . . .
It’s about the ability to service the debt. On a debt to GDP basis, Singapore has higher debt than the USA but I don’t see tales of doom for that island nation. Haiti has very low debt but I don’t see anyone claiming a bright future there.
China’s economy is a house of cards built on quicksands of CCP lies. Just recently the government admitted that it had over counted its population by 100 million, and that vaporised number was supposedly aged early 40s and under. Oops – and that’s what they’re admitting to. China’s age demographics are deeply fucked. China’s customers are decoupling from China as fast as possible, not good for an export economy. China’s ports are stacked high with empty containers.
I wouldn’t count on China for anything, and I certainly wouldn’t count the USA out.
BiS, Jack – slowly, slowly, then all at once.
Betting on the middle class isn’t a long term play, because the middle class are a small percentage (though they are disproportionately likely to vote) of the overall tsunami of migration that’s Making Tejas Mexican Again (and Somali, and Pakistani, and Guatemalan, and Nigerian, and so on).
No guarantees the Dems will be able to maintain their coalition of grievances forever, but we do know demography is destiny, and white Americans are now outnumbered there. So Texas is going to become more like Chihuahua over time, and less like Connecticut.
California used to be a solid Republican state with a white majority too.
. . . the US seems to be seriously planning war with China before the end of this decade. They will lose . . .
The US, and the threatened countries in Asia, are looking to deter China. And if there’s a war before 2030 then China doesn’t stand a chance. It doesn’t (and won’t by then) have a deep sea navy capable of defending the import supply chains it relies on. The US can defeat China without going near it.
PJF – China’s economy is a house of cards built on quicksands of CCP lies
Sure, but it’s not all lies. Their factories are real. Their supply chains are real. Their power stations are real. Their manufacturing know how is real. They produce real, physical things of value people want to buy. On t’other, I’m not convinced Google is really “worth” $1.3 Tn, are you?
China has big problems, but compared to the US – the most indebted nation in the history of mankind, and still spending money like a drunken chimpanzee at a banana bar – I’d suggest their problems are more soluble.
Btw, the average IQ in China is 104. America has already slipped below the (European) average, trending towards the Latin American mean. Have you seen Mike Judge’s documentary ‘Idiocracy’?
PJF – there is no plausible scenario in which the US Navy can “win” a conflict over Taiwan. It would be a reverse Battle of Midway.
A “conflict over Taiwan”? You think the CCP might be duped into invading, like poor confused halfwitted Vladdy was? Funny how these dignified nationalist strongmen with their high IQs keep falling for Yankee treachery.
The suggestion that the US is actively seeking war with China is beyond deranged. The CCP is constantly threatening the territory of its neighbours and Taiwan is just the most egregious example. The US and the rest of the West should actually be ashamed of pandering to the CCP’s ‘One China’ delusions for so long.
And of course you had to have a dig at Israel too.
Oh Steve, I remember when you were funny, not a sad little Jew-baiter fantasising about the death of the west and fetishising oppressive dumps like China and Russia because you’re unhappy with the direction of politics at home.
MC – The suggestion that the US is actively seeking war with China is beyond deranged
Ok, lol:
A four-star Air Force general sent a memo on Friday to the officers he commands that predicts the U.S. will be at war with China in two years and tells them to get ready to prep by firing “a clip” at a target, and “aim for the head.”
And of course you had to have a dig at Israel too.
Oh Steve, I remember when you were funny, not a sad little Jew-baiter fantasising about the death of the west and fetishising oppressive dumps like China and Russia because you’re unhappy with the direction of politics at home.
You sound like an angry woman.
I think Steve is getting his military intelligence from the same source which assured us that Ukraine was “a retarded nation of potato farmers” in January last year.
– I’m not convinced Google is really “worth” $1.3 Tn, are you?
Nope, but I’m also not convinced a whole mess of “real” infrastructure is worth anything in isolation either (see Japan – world’s most indebted country per GDP – ave IQ 106.5). And IQ in isolation also isn’t a good indicator. A more useful measure is ICI – intelligence capitalisation index – which measures a country’s ability to benefit from the IQ it has. The US tops that scale and China doesn’t even make the top ten. Which is not surprising because having achieved (or purchased) a good school qualification isn’t much use to you if a corrupt commie government directs the economy.
. . . there is no plausible scenario in which the US Navy can “win” a conflict over Taiwan.
The US has no defence treaty with Taiwan and will almost certainly not significantly intervene* should the CCP be stupid enough to attack. Even though the US legally obliged itself to provide Taiwan with means of self defence, it’s always paid lip service (enough to make some money whilst not unduly upsetting the mainland). The US recognises “one China”; it won’t directly go to war over Taiwan. A CCP invasion might lead to war if sanctions are applied, but that war won’t be physically around Taiwan.
*They’ll probably bomb the advanced chip fabs to make sure China doesn’t get them (since China can’t make their own).
Steve:
No guarantees the Dems will be able to maintain their coalition of grievances forever, but we do know demography is destiny…
No, this is one of the many, many things about politics that we cannot claim to know. Hillary Clinton also thought “demography was destiny” in 2016, and look what happened to her.
Israel better be looking for a new sugar daddy.
Well it did just hand over the operations of Haifa port to the CCP for the next 25 years, but I suspect the wily joos are anticipating more sugar than daddy. Like a lot of places accepting Chinese investment I think there’s an expectation that these are debts that won’t have to be repaid. Thanks for all the infrastructure; now fuck off.
This goes beyond political persecution.
This is the same district attorney who downgraded felony offenses like assaults, rapes and robberies to misdemeanors. Even for murder, many times perps are released from NYC prisons within 24-48 hours.
Meanwhile, innocent working people who defend themselves against armed attackers are sent to prison and are at risk of being charged with murder or attempted murder. Happened a few months ago to Jose Alba, a Dominican immigrant who ran a bodega (convenience store) and was attacked by a big ex-convict when he ran out of food stamps to pay for his stuff. The man’s girlfriend stabbed Jose while he jumped behind the counter and cornered the clerk, but Jose stabbed him in the neck with his own knife and killed him. Jose spent the next several days in Riker’s prison (one of the country’s toughest) and was facing about $500,000 bail. It wasn’t until news got out and people protested that Alvin Bragg was pressured to lower it to $250,000, then $50,000. Even worse, GoFundMe–despite gladly allowing bail money for AntiFa and BLM–took down his page and the family had to find an alternative, GiveSendGo.
Eventually, Jose’s family was able to get him released with $5,000. Last time I checked, he was considering going back to the DR after enduring this treatment. Apparently, in NYC you’re just supposed to cower in fear and accept your imminent death.

Just this past week, a garage attendant investigated a man wandering around the facility, and the guy pulled a gun and began shooting. The attendant wasn’t armed, but he wrestled the gun from the assailant and started shooting back. The attacker wasn’t killed, but both men were charged with a form of assault. The attendant is likely to eventually be exonerated, much like Jose Alba was, but he still had to spend the first day or two of his hospital stay in handcuffs. I imagine he was expecting the same fate as the last guy.

Alvin Bragg’s election campaign was funded by a George Soros-backed organization. The media, including reporters from the big networks, are not only overlooking Bragg’s incompetence/corruption/malevolence, but they’re also calling anyone who mentions Soros’ involvement an “anti-Semite” just for noticing reality.
That’s the real reason why people are upset about Trump’s indictment. It’s being rubbed in our faces that your life doesn’t matter if you’re a mere citizen. I really hope the BBC/Guardian/Telegraph haven’t been hiding these details from you guys. If they have, then please inform your fellow countrymen.
Paul – it is (so is Russia).
I’m an equal opportunity offender when it comes to slagging off Johnny F. But at the same time, I do take them seriously. That makes some people angry, I suspect because they’re still trying to convince themselves things will go back to “normal”.
They won’t. (Sorry)
PJF – I think we’re living in the proverbial “interesting times”. At least as consequential as 1991.
You already know my thoughts on this: the centre couldn’t hold, falcons going stone deaf, mere anarchy, Cthulhu and so on. I don’t think the historical record of what happens when you have debased currencies, imported populations and elites gorn mad offers much comfort for fans of Western civ, but I would love to be wrong.
On a cheerier note, at least we still have HS2.
CJA – Hillary Clinton also thought “demography was destiny” in 2016, and look what happened to her.
She’s still a member of the establishment in good standing, while the guy who defeated her is going to jail?
Sure showed Hilldawg.
She’s still a member of the establishment in good standing, while the guy who defeated her is going to jail?
Yup he gives a payoff to a whore and gets busted, Biden takes money from the Ukis and the CCP abd that’s just dandy.
As for Hillary losing state secrets via her shithouse mail server well.. I just don’t have the words for how fucked the US is.
And MC, you’re a cunt.
– I think we’re living in the proverbial “interesting times”. At least as consequential as 1991.
It’s OK, Steve, we survived George Carey as Arch Bish so we’ll walk the breakup of the Russian Federation.
I would suggest that in general, Trump and his paid staff have been fairly good at covering their tracks – that’s one thing wealth can buy you, people who know how to do that – and that makes it hard to dig enough to find the real dirt. The thing to remember here is that one thing he has NOT been charged with was paying off a porn star – entering into a legally binding agreement where A gives B a load of money in return for B not speaking about certain matters is generally legal (unless the thing not to be talked about is itself a criminal offence).
Full disclosure, I’ve been the recipient of a payout in the past – previous employer offered me a “satisfactory amount”, and in return I agreed not to talk about why I was leaving. The alternative would have been an employment tribunal where I’d probably have been awarded a similar amount, and it would have been a complete ball ache for both me and the employer.
Had he put down the money he paid to his lawyer as (effectively) “hush money for B” then AUI most if not all of these charges would not be valid. But because he put the payments down as legal fees then that’s a real offence of falsifying business records – which is what he’s been charged with. Are we supposed to ignore the rules on keeping accurate business records simply because he’s a rich guy, or because the recipient is a porn star, or he’s a prominent politician, or … ? Arguably, someone in Trump’s position should be held to a high standard because he’s in a position to pay experts to get such details right.
Alongside that, there are claims that he broke the rules on what people are and aren’t allowed to do while campaigning in an election. It seems to me that if those rules are there, and some rich guy thinks he can ignore them with impunity, then it’s reasonable for that rich guy to face the consequences of (allegedly) breaking the law. If you are going to dismiss this as nothing more than a political witch-hunt, the doesn’t that imply you don’t think everyone should be held to obey the laws of the land ? If the argument is “but X did worse and they’ve not been charged”, then the argument should be that “X did something illegal and should be charged” – i.e. uphold the law for everyone.
Personally I would be surprised if he isn’t guilty, and if he’s found guilty of these relatively minor charges, that will give the authorities “due cause” to be able to look into stuff they couldn’t before. The result of that may be that more serious offences come to light and the house of cards starts collapsing.
These may seem petty charges, but Al Capone was taken down by tax evasion charges. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Capone#Tax_evasion
She’s still a member of the establishment in good standing, while the guy who defeated her is going to jail?
Sure showed Hilldawg.
As ever Steve, you indulge in sophistry and whataboutery when faced with an argument. The point is that Clinton (and the DLC faction within the Dems who backed her) believed that appealing almost exclusively to burgeoning minorities would help her win the 2016 election. It didn’t. So your “idea” that “demography is destiny” works as some sort of iron law of American political development is just empty-headed fluff. Coming up with a lame zinga about Clinton not being in jail means the square root of fuck all in this context.
