The real lesson of Dylan Mulvaney

Some folk will do anything for a buck:

Nike under fire for paying transgender influencer to model sports bra
Choice of Dylan Mulvaney – who has yet to physically transition to a woman – criticised as failing to represent ‘realistic female bodies’

“yet to physically transition” means not had the meat and veg chopped off yet. Might well not do so even. But has managed to make a star out of himself and we would all presume make a fucktonne of money in doing so. Which is more than he ever made as a straight actor (as in, being an actor, not a reference to either sexual activity or gender). Which sounds like a pretty good role really.

Oh well, good career move.

But the real lesson of this? Yes, people will indeed take on roles in order to profit by what they consider to be profit – whatever maximises their utility that is. Including, say, getting a piece of paper that allows them to compete in an easier sporting category. Or serving easier porridge. Or, gaining thrill is seeing the nekkid boobies in the changing room.

Not all people, obviously, nor even a majority. But some will – which is what the problem is, isn’t it? How many some is enough that we must place restrictions upon the ability to do so?

  1. The other lesson is that there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Just look at how many headlines Nike have generated. Even the target age school & college kids will be talking about this.

  2. There was a woman, Norah Vincent, who was writing a book on the male experience and wanted to go undercover. She was a lesbo, so she already was able to act more masculine than the typical female, and also had the attraction to other females going for her. She wasn’t trans, but simply wanted to live as a man for over a year out of curiosity.

Even though this was only an experiment, Norah said the experience messed with her sense of identity, and she became incredibly depressed.

She committed suicide about a year ago.

Whatever amount of attention and accolades Dylan is currently receiving, reality will eventually catch up to him (likely after the cameras have been turned off in a few years), and he ain’t gonna like it. I only hope he doesn’t have to sink into yet more delusion before coming to that realization.

That’s the real reason for the higher suicide rate among trans people. They aren’t actually the opposite sex trapped in their body, they just don’t understand themselves. They need therapy, not enabling.

The problem is not simply that there are deluded opportunists who will lower themselves for a buck. Those people have and will always exist. It’s not even that there are gullible, enabling people who will buy this bullshit, because they’ve always existed too. The problem is that reasonable people are being censored from offering competing opinions, so that the holes in transgender ideology cannot be freely exposed.

  3. So, does this mean that, unless you buy Nike products, you’re transphobic? We really are doomed.

  4. The stories of red-blooded Americans losing their shit because there are pictures of that freak on their cans of Bud Light are absolutely great. Kid Rock gunning down a case of Bud sounds like something you’d find in The Onion.

  5. . . . there’s no such thing as bad publicity. – Gerald Ratner

I doubt they’ll be talking about how cool it is to wear Nike.

  6. Dvdhfhfhc – damn, that’s sad.

PJF – I doubt they’ll be talking about how cool it is to wear Nike.

I also wonder who the demented ageing twink in a dress is supposed to appeal to. They’ve got him shilling Bud Light too, for whatever reason.

    Burgers?

  7. “Kid Rock gunning down a case of Bud sounds like something you’d find in The Onion.”

Don’t forget that there’s a serious possibility that if this happened, it was for publicity as well.

  8. “But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith in me would be better drowned in the depths of the sea with a great millstone round his neck.”

  9. From the census figures (and who’d lie to the census) there are twice as many Quakers as transpeople, so the media should be flooded with wall-to-wall Quaker stuff, and it should be dominating every piece of political and cultural discourse.

  10. There is a rumour that this whole thing with Dylan Mulvaney is just a prank / grift that has gotten out of hand and he is so far up to his ass in crocodiles that he can’t easily turn around and say “Err…just joking”

For example, he still has his meat and two veg, has no surgery planned (top or bottom) and what facial / neck procedures he’s had done haven’t substantially changed his appearance.

A bit like Grayson Perry without the personality, wit, talent or humour.

Or the plan is, when the current stream of opportunity starts to run dry, flip back to calling himself a bloke and kick start a whole new media appearance round of “I was so confused etc etc”

(Total speculation, given that the first time I’ve even heard of this man is when I read this blog post.)

  12. JG – I don’t think he’s “really” “trans”.

(I don’t think anyone is trans, but that’s a different thing.)

He’s a gay theatre nerd, who failed to become a star until he got hired by CCA and started his current (very successful) career as an “influencer”.

About 5 minutes later he was meeting Joe Biden and getting sponsorship deals with literally dozens of brands, so you can tell this thing is about as spontaneous and organic as Swedish Climate Mongoloid.

He doesn’t fit the AGP profile (they’re mostly heterosexual middle aged men) and doesn’t quite fit the HSTS profile (extremely effeminate homosexuals who want to be ‘women’ so ‘straight’ men will sex them) either. His days of girlhood are remarkably low effort, compared with literally any Thai ladyboy.

He does seem to crave attention of any kind. That’s not unusual with trannies, but it might be a bigger motivator for him than sexual gratification.

From a brand POV, he’s great. Actual troons are very dangerous to sponsor, because you never know when they’ll go on a racist rant, threaten to Minecraft JK Rowling, or try to sell bathtub estrogen to children.

As a media professional, Dylan can be trusted to stay on message and shill the products/politicians he’s paid to shill.

  13. @John – I loved the one liner in your link.

“Hey kids, be like Corey and sell photos of your butthole to pedophiles online!”

    Classy.

  14. Bloke in the Fourth Reich in Derbyshire

How come only gay people can play gay people, but men can play women?

  15. Bloke in the Fourth Reich

Hey Tim, really snot fair people like Dennis can enhance their name but when I do it your spam filter shallows it.

  16. @Steve,

100%. In fact, here’s the attention whore on The Price Is Right a few years ago:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOQbCTCB5-A
(note that he posted this spectacle on his own YouTube channel, thirsty much?)

And it wasn’t just meeting Biden. Don’t forget, Drew Barrymore also knelt before him (literally) on her show. Just every empty vessel in the entertainment industry telling him “Yes.”

A good example of someone making a more reasoned decision is Blaire White. Regardless of anyone’s thoughts on trans stuff, Blaire at least understands that “she” is not actually a woman, that kids should not be groomed or transitioned, and that one’s identity shouldn’t be revolving around sex stuff. “This person” is married to a dude, and is actually right-of-center politically. Blaire appears on various podcasts and is able to talk about more important subjects like economics and crime.

Wendy Carlos is another good example. Someone with an actual skill who just has one weird segment of their life. Nowadays, we have people with 5 or more weird parts of their lives. They also want to smash the patriarchy and demolish capitalism, and infiltrate the Department of Education, and steal women’s luggage, and attend bestiality cosplay events, etc. I’d say that’s a telltale sign they’re just begging for an audience, nothing else.

  17. @Dvdhfhfhc – closer to home debbie Hayton talks a lot of sense about transexualism. She too understands that “she” is not actually a woman. You can avoid the speccie paywall quite easily to read “her” articles

  18. I’d say that’s a telltale sign they’re just begging for an audience, nothing else.

I’d say that that’s a telltale sign they’re just nuts.

  19. There’s some genius marketing going on here. How do you sell sports bras to women whose breasts are too small to need special support for sports? Employ a trans woman with a male chest to model the product. It generates a huge amount of publicity and makes it seem like all women need a special bra for sports.
