Unsporting, eh?

Race organisers reviewed data from their tracking system after a report of an “unsporting, competitive advantage” and confirmed that a runner had taken a vehicle during part of the route, the BBC reported. Zakrzewski is understood to have travelled by car for 2.5 miles, covering one mile in just 100 seconds.

Yes, OK, unsporting.

The trouble with Slavs is they never do read any Grantland Rice.

  1. Scottish Athletics chairman David Ovens said: “It is very disappointing to hear this, given Joasia’s had such a successful period over the last few years. I hope she can put this behind her and that there is an innocent explanation and she can resume her successful career.”

Maybe the car identified as a running shoe. That would be pretty innocent.

I thought this was going to be about that Fulani woman again.

  3. Be delicious if the car was a Dodge?

Also lovely is the way her nationality has changed from British to Scottish now she has been identified as a cheat.

  4. 2.5 miles by car in 100 seconds is pushing it! That averages 90MPH and you have to accelerate and brake in that time so will need to be doing well over 100MPH. That must have been hard to do without being noticed ….. or perhaps they were.

  5. Possibly the poem Tim alludes to.

The cove who knows the uphill road
Is better training for the fray
    Than sliding into quick renown
    Along the somewhat softer way
Who throws self-pity to the gales
And knows that life is mostly fight,
Who chirps, ‘What of it?’ in defeat-
    Will do all right.

2.5 miles by car, 1 mile of which — presumably the fastest — was in 100s. So that would be 36mph average over that fastest mile with acceleration and braking at either end.

OK. I read it as travelling 2.5 miles by car which got them 1 mile further down the race route in 100s. I think my interpretation makes more sense …. except for the rather fast driving. Reporting the time taken by car to cover 1 of the 2.5 miles seems rather irrelevant.

  8. Does she get no credit for initiative…?

Webb-Ellis picked up a football… and the rest is history!
