It also promises on its website the “opportunity to earn €1,995 to €2,480 per month” after taxes – which is about £1,750 to £2,200, just over the average wage in the UK. However, information gathered with the help of the FNV trade union confederation, based in the Netherlands, suggests many drivers are earning well below the minimum wage in the countries in which they are making deliveries.
If you work for a Lithuanian firm then you get paid Lithuanian wages.
Shrug.
Girteka is legally able to pay the minimum wage for Lithuania where it is based – which is €5.14 (£4.53) an hour – despite drivers spending most of their time elsewhere.
Quite.
Think of it the other way. You deliver from Germany to Romania – your pay changes as you cross the border(s)?
Bastard Brexiteers at it again, eh?
Ursula Wonder Lion will sort this out!
Wot about pilots & aircrew?
Should their pay change depending on which nation they are flying across?
‘he said he planned to work as a Girteka driver for two or three years. “I want to finish building a house and after that I will leave this kind of work.”’
Interesting that the bloke can afford to build a house while working for Girteka.
Still, if the conditions are really a problem, the obvious solution is for the EU to forbid the wages of its workers being undercut by immigrants. One can imagine the whines in the Guardian if they actually did that.
Bboy – exploiting poor people in poor parts of Europe (Tallinn, Bratislava, Glasgow, etc.) for cheap labour was one of the good bits of the EU.
We actually do want to exploit the poor, as much as possible. When I was young, unemployed, and couldn’t afford a pot in which to have a Rishi, I was desperate to be exploited. Positively gagging for it. I would imagine Baltic workies or Polish bricklayers feel much the same way.
Unfortunately the British government has to ruin it by not only inviting in tens of millions of unproductive (and let’s be honest, ugly) retards. But also by spaffing British benefits and British passports over every foreigner it can see, hear or smell.
You do have a case Steve. If you allow people in at the bottom, and let them work their way up if they have the talent and the inclination, you can get a really good result.
Letting them in because of the whines of the woke, not so much.
In general, airline pilots’ pay does change over different borders. A Russian pilot flying Russia to Russia gets paid less than a Russian pilot flying Russia to UK. It’s one of the ways that airlines compete on international flights.
If you allow people in at the bottom, and let them work their way up if they have the talent and the inclination, you can get a really good result.
Yeah. The result was called the United States of America. Whatever happened to that? Now Bidenia, isn’t it?
Yeah. The result was called the United States of America. Whatever happened to that?
It’s a fakakta mystery, I tell you.
Wasn’t Macon banging on about this a couple of years ago? IIRC he wanted to standardise truck driver wages across the EU because the French drivers couldn’t compete.
