It frustrates Harris, 45, that reparations opponents won’t acknowledge that life for Black people did not improve with the abolition of chattel slavery in 1865.
If abolshing chatel slavery didn’t improve things the chattel slavery wasn’t a bad thing then, was it?
It’s as if the AP writer is deliberately trying to undermine the argument. Sheesh.
Being a slave to not being a slave is an improvement. The reparations movement is a grift designed to steal money from people who never held slaves and give it to a bunch of wasters who never were slaves. Glad I don’t live in California, frankly.
Reparations proposals for African Americans date back to 1865, when Union General William Tecumseh Sherman ordered that newly freed people be given up to 40 acres (16 hectares) of land.
That’s what we are constantly told. Now a few more details:-
Four days later, Sherman issued his Special Field Orders, No. 15. The orders provided for the settlement of 40,000 freed slaves and black refugees on land expropriated from white landowners in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Sherman appointed Brig. Gen. Rufus Saxton, an abolitionist from Massachusetts who had previously directed the recruitment of black soldiers, to implement that plan. Those orders, which became the basis of the claim that the Union government had promised freed slaves “forty acres and a mule”, were revoked later that year by President Johnson.
1. Sherman probably never had the authority.
2. The land he tried to give away was “expropriated” from white landowners.
3. The proposal was quickly nipped in the bud.
If you have the time, you may find this of great interest re slavery and reparations:

Honestly, well worth the time.

It’s not that at all, I just don’t fucking care.
If the reparations on offer consisted of a one way ticket to the bit of Africa that their ancestors came from I bet they would shut up about it pretty quickly.
As an aside, I sometimes visit a site called Bored Panda. One of their posts featured a series of colourised photographs. Some were from, I’m guessing 1920s or 1930s America. They featured black Americans who were looking pretty prosperous, very well dressed and owning cars. I’m not sure what, if anything, can be deduced from these pictures, I just found them quite thought provoking.
it frustrates Van_Patten, 46 that reparations proponents won’t acknowledge their complete historical ignorance and the fact that they have less integrity than a mollusc
Fixed that for them
Pia Harris is that fat bint 3 from left in the pic. “Payments of $5 million to every eligible Black adult, the elimination of personal debt and tax burdens, guaranteed annual incomes of at least $97,000 for 250 years and homes in San Francisco for just $1 a family.” No wonder the grifters want it when stupid white people start taking figures like this seriously.
Perhaps instead of whining , why not work hard and achieve something? Seems to have worked for Japan and germany after being bombed flat in ww2 and china since 1989. But then who ever heard of a successful black country ? Wakanda is not real, but third world shitholes are.

There’s an analogue of this point being made by RU speakers in Ukraine.
The justification for the last 6 years+ of anti-Russian language legislation by the Ukraine central government is that historically Ukrainian was a language marginalised by Russia.
Which definitely happened in the Josef era.
So people who never did anti-UA discrimination now got discriminated against by people who never suffered it.
And when the Ukrainian President came for Putin’s mate Medvedchuk by banning his tv channels of Russian soaps and antique shows from the country it all escalated from there.
I bet the bbc wishes it could call on that sort of backup for its telly tax goons!

Entertaining. Are you Brits going to offer we Aussies a one way ticket back to the UK, Stonyground?? But I suspect that the last thing you want is more of us back there.
Of course the cost of settling the convicts in Oz was far more than that of keeping them in the hulks – I was amused by the way that you put some of the prisoners taken during the Troubles in the hulks, one can only admire your bureaucrats for remembering that that was the way to do it.

Actually a swap wouldn’t be a bad idea. I think you know what I mean.
Which way round though. You coming here or us going there? You’ve got a damned sight more room and resources, and with scorching temperatures in January we could even pretend that “climate change” has happened.
That’s because it did. Or did she say this in a message smuggled out from the dormitory after a gruelling 12-hour shift in the cotton fields?
It is becoming something of a pathetic sight, all these people salivating over the prospects of being given millions, taxed away from lots of Hispanics, Asians and even whites whose families came to the US long after the Civil War, but which they will probably never receive because this nonsense is unlikely to pass. Politicians are starting to sweat over how do they appear to be sympathetic toward the idea of reparations while knowing they may well be voted out of office should they impose the taxes necessary to pay them.

Well you could all come here and leave the UK to be colonised. Modern desalination plants should make sure there’s plenty of water.
But I suspect that the colonisers of the UK might be a little peeved when there’s none of your money left there to colonise!!
