To create an AI-powered Google competitor, Perplexity didn’t have to hire an army of AI researchers. It only had to write a prompt, albeit a more complex one than most people type into ChatGPT.
But the company’s secret sauce isn’t the prompt itself, it’s the user interface. In essence, OpenAI is enabling anyone to create their own, customized internet search engine and Perplexity is building a business around that.
If anyone can then anyone will. Which mens no profit becasue no moat against competition.
QED
An alleged internal memo from Google leaked last week, entitled “We have no moat, and neither does OpenAI”. https://www.semianalysis.com/p/google-we-have-no-moat-and-neither
Title says it all. The real winners will be consumers, not companies.
I love it when people don’t understand the business they are in.
Google is an adslinger. When AI slings ads they’ve a problem. Everything else is just nerds worrying about someone else’s shiny shiny.
Poot
I’m reminded of that seminal hacker phrase “Information wants to be free.”
Google is an adslinger. When AI slings ads they’ve a problem.
Adslinging is one application of the tech. But the world doesn’t begin & end at adslinging.
