We’re just like the Nazis, no, really!

It’s well known – well, well known outside anti-trans circles – that trans people were targeted by the Nazis; the famous book-burning photograph that pretty much everybody in the world has seen was taken in 1933 when Nazi thugs looted the Institute of Sexology and burnt its research into trans and gender non-conforming people. However, like most people aware of this I thought that trans people were targeted not so much because they were trans, but because as far as the Nazis were concerned trans and gay were the same thing.

That’s partly true, but not wholly true. It turns out that some trans people were indeed targeted, and murdered, simply because they were trans.

This horrifying piece in The Conversation is about how scholars are uncovering more details about how trans people were treated by the Nazis. It isn’t a fun read.

The author of a 1938 book on “the problem of transvestitism” wrote that before Hitler was in power, there was not much that could be done about transgender people, but that now, in Nazi Germany, they could be put in concentration camps or subjected to forced castration. That was good, he believed, because the “asocial mindset” of trans people and their supposedly frequent “criminal activity … justifies draconian measures by the state.”

There are some very clear parallels with present-day anti-trans activism and politicians, and not just because Neo-Nazis keep turning up at anti-trans rallies.

Nazis: If you wear dresses we’ll cut your bollocks off.

Modern day: Do what you like yourself but don’t cut the bollocks off kiddies.

What do you mean you can’t see that this makes us Nazis?

  1. ‘There are some very clear parallels with present-day anti-trans activism and politicians’

In other words, if you disagree with me you’re a Nazi. This IS the standard leftist argument.

  2. no wait a minute

Was it just transvestites ? Was it also people in squirrel suits ? were the Nazis anti-furries ?

Was it possible to be trans gender in the 1930s ? I thought that this was only possible from the 1960s once antibiotics had been developed to prevent bits getting infected and dropping off.

( funnily enough Radio3 played a piece by Angela Morley the other day. She was of course formerly known as Wally Stott and the piece bore an uncanny resemblance to the theme to Hancock’s Half Hour ).

  3. Bloke in the Fourth Reich

Here in the reich, sufficient of us are now sufficiently used to being called Nazis that, were an election held tomorrow, the supposedly Nazi party that none of us are allowed to vote for despite being Nazis would beat all the current coalition parties to second place.

    Halfcock’s Han Hour?
    I’ll get my coat.

  5. “anti-trans circles”: are there anti-anorexia circles too? Does every modish mental illness have an anti-illness?

(The answer is probably ‘only if it means butchering children’.)

  6. As it’s apparently so well known can anyone tell me how many trans people were killed by the Nazi’s? Wiki doesn’t give a figure, however it does suggest that the author of this quote has taken a considerable liberty when laying claim to the Institut fur Sexualwissenschaft on behalf of the trans movement when, in reality, it was only one out of a large number of conditions being studied there.

There’s little doubt the Nazis are in the process of going mythic. Same way as the Vikings, although very much quicker. Probably because the word’s been misused for so much it’s becoming de-coupled from the original organisation. We’ve already gone through the phase of the use of Nazi regalia & symbolism for shock value in the punk days. Eventually it’ll end up as a cool fashion statement, no doubt marketed by Hugo Boss.
When things go mythic, people pick out of the myth whatever suits them. Look at someone like Richard the Lionheart. There’s stirring name for an English king. Except he was a French speaking Norman & one of the English’s oppressors.

  8. Steve

Too perfect – ‘ then they came for the genderfucked’ – with 251 genders and rising the poem could be longer than the lyrics to ‘American Pie’

  9. ‘Eventually it’ll end up as a cool fashion statement, no doubt marketed by Hugo Boss. When things go mythic, people pick out of the myth whatever suits them.’

    All too true, BiS.

  10. Nazis: If you wear dresses we’ll cut your bollocks off.

Modern day: If you wear dresses we’ll cut your bollocks off and you’ll be happy.

Not pictured: Individual lifestyle choices free of ideological coercion.

    You’re welcome!

Actually, Goering, with his love of rouge and make up, and penchant for what is not normally considered manly attire would have fitted in quite well in a “pride” parade.

Ernst Rohm, thuggish leader of the brownshirts was a notorious uphill gardner, and the leadership of the SA well known as a nest of hypocritical sodomites.

When the Fuhrer had them all done in, the notorious “night of the long knives”, they were pounced on in a lakeside hotel, many dragged out the beds they had been sharing with their rent boys.

I have had a few occasions when members of the LGBSS “community” have called me a friend of Adolf and I have pointed all this out.

Most amusing – for a short period- but very illuminating when the total double think kicks in and you begin to realise just how mindless and programmed these people are.

    @bis,

Problem with that is two or three rather prominent people in the supposedly Nazi party really are Nazis. The not particularly subtle change from euroskeptic wing of the FDP to leftist nationalists (think BNP but running most of their rhetoric through spin doctors) has gone somewhat unnoticed outside the Reich.

I blame Merkel and the media for the party having not dealt with that problem earlier. Having some real boo-hiss type pantomime villains in the enemy party helps a lot.

Bad things get done when people “go along” as we saw the last 3 years. We desperately need an Alternativ to the leftgreen block parties but something other than this one would be preferable.

Maybe a dose of “shoot refugees and screw climate change” in a coalition government would at least moderate the insanity of the current lot. If they were really clever (which they are not), the big parties would also take note that the German parliament is full of small parties that were made smaller by participating in coalition governments and selling out their base.

I fully expect the madness to continue and AfD to run the union to a close second at the next election. The end result will be an even smaller grand coalition government and more business as usual. Business as usual currently being destroying every property owner in Germany.

  13. BIS,

“There’s little doubt the Nazis are in the process of going mythic. Same way as the Vikings, although very much quicker. Probably because the word’s been misused for so much it’s becoming de-coupled from the original organisation.”

I think the Nazis have always been somewhat mythic. It’s partly about their own doing, that they were very big on propaganda and symbolism. They are the greatest pantomime villains in history. Which leads to things like the Indiana Jones films having Hitler looking for mythical objects, or the Wolfenstein games being about the Nazis getting into the paranormal. You couldn’t do that with Stalin or Napoleon, but the image of Hitler fits with it.

And once you do that, how long does it take for the Nazis to become viewed as maybe not real, that a lot of it was made up?

  14. But Bit$thR, are you saying these supposed Nazi are advocating invading Poland & a military excursion through Luxembourg or is it that they’re in favour of Germany for Germans? If it’s the later, how do you separate them from the Welsh & Scots Nats, half the popular governments on the planet & the entire history of the Republic of Ireland up until they recently drunk the Kool Aid? When it comes down to it, it’s only some of the Western orientated supposed democracies have chosen to ignore the wishes of their own people & impose multiculturalism & unfettered immigration on them.

  15. Yea gods! The illiteracy of these morons. Truely, there is something about certain mindsets that destroys the language centres of the brain. “They were transvestites, therefore they were trans”. I thought the first trans surgery was pioneered in the 1970s, I’m sure I remember watching a TV documentary about it. This is also this immature mindset that thinks that everything outside the window *today* has been around forever. Trans people and mobile phones exist today, therefore they must have existed in the 1930s.

  16. “They were transvestites, therefore they were trans”.

I was wondering (though obviously not enough to be motivated to do any reading whatsoever) if the text quoted was conflating transvestite with transsexual and transgender. Either through ignorance or malice.

  17. I feel the same way about ropers and blacks in my country as the ropers feel about jews in Palestine and the blacks about whites in South Africa.
I don’t hear too many people comparing them to nazi’s, but somehow I am literally Hitler.

  18. Bloke in the Fourth Reich

    bis,
Yes, some of them do want bits of Poland back. One of them wants to establish a new (ethno)nationalist religion. Lots and lots of state planned economy involved.

Far from clear they would be a better bet than the current lot. An actual liberal party would be a great thing.

The migration issue is one that needs solving at the European level. Basically the Mediterranean needs to be a fortress barrier. It shouldn’t be hard, it is a fucking sea at the end of the day. The fact that it is so easy to get across it is a political choice presented as an inevitability – same as the UK’s problem at Calais.

  19. “funnily enough Radio3 played a piece by Angela Morley the other day. She was of course formerly known as Wally Stott and the piece bore an uncanny resemblance to the theme to Hancock’s Half Hour”

She moved to Hollywood later on and, as well as working on Dallas and Dynasty, did all the concert arrangements of John Williams’s soundtracks from Star Wars to Schindler’s List. Weird to think there’s a direct link between the Imperial March and Railway Cuttings, East Cheam.

  20. Lionheart Except he was a French speaking Norman & one of the English’s oppressors.

And spent about a fortnight of his reign in England

  21. Trans people were targeted by Nazis? But trans people have only been around since everyone got bored during covid lockdowns

Is Alice Weidel still around ? Despite being a lezzer she has that Servalan quality about her.

  24. Lots and lots of state planned economy involved.
Crikey Bit4thR. Now tell me which major political party in the EU, UK or N.America has a manifesto hasn’t got ” lots and lots of state planned economy involved.”?

  25. Bloke in the Fourth Reich

The events of the last 36 hours mean I have to correct my projection. AfD will be the largest party at the next federal election if they are not banned for being NasZtie before then.

  26. @ Bi4R
I tried to see to what you were referring and found the Bremen election where BiW won all the seats that were stolen from Afd and one extra, while SPD only picked up seats from its former coalition partners (possibly the latter lost by going into coalition and threby losing some of their “purity”).
    Hmm!
Trying to disqualify AfD tends to rebound …
I don’t think I like AfD but they have a right to express their views.

  27. Bloke in the Fourth Reich

AfD didn’t have the Bremen election stolen, they didn’t contend it. An error in paperwork.

These genuine errors happen surprisingly frequently – the Green party missed out on a recent state election for the same reason.
