Idiot nonsense

Time is running out for Britain’s orcas – and we have ourselves to blame

Blather

Entire pod of whales dies in worst mass stranding in Britain
Survivors from group of 55 mammals washed up on Isle of Lewis have to be euthanised after attempts to refloat them fail

There are more strandings, more corpses floating around because there are more whales. Not hunting them was both a good thing and also the reason why there are more. As apex – hmm, not necessarily apex predators but – mammals it’s really only starvation, stranding or old age that gets them.

It really is true that a – note, a – reason for more rotting whale corpses on the beaches is that there are more whales.

  1. Unless someone thinks rotting corpses makes the beach a bit smelly, I can’t see why this matters.

Of course I’d be a bit more concerned if they were attacking MY boat. As the orcas seem to be doing to people off the Iberian coast.

  2. Well yes Chernyy. It was pilot whales that were stranded on the Isle of Lewis.

Though orcas are attacking boats off the Iberian coast.

  3. Hadn’t thought of that one Sam. Do you think they might be trying to flee the EU dominated ocean to seek asylum in the UK?

Are they available, at a mutually acceptable price, for cross-channel duty?

  5. Is it just me, or is there a common trend to the cause of problems in the West?
A bad thing has happened and IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!

  6. As George Carlin put it: “Over 99% of all the species that have ever existed on Earth are gone. Extinct. WE didn’t do it…..”.

  7. I think that lots of whales and dolphins is a bloody good thing. After all, when there is no more oil from the ground, we’ll need to go whaling again …

  8. And of course EM, we can eat them instead of raping GAIA by letting those huge herds of cattle and sheep graze all over the place.

  9. Dunno. The ocean is quite a loud place, made even louder by motor vessels.
Isle Of Lewis is not near a major sea lane, but the whales may have been disorientated by seismic surveying.

Is there a wind farm nearby? ISTR that being suggested as a reason for whale deaths on the western side of the Atlantic.

As is ever the case always and everywhere. The volcano is erupting, the crops have failed, there’s a plague spreading, or whatever bad thing is happening, so it must be because we have angered the gods.

  12. Dennis, Asking The Tough Questions So You Don't Have To

How do you tell British orcas from French orcas, or Italian orcas?

  13. @ Dennis
Since we don’t own any orcas, the answer must be that the plastic imitations have a Union Jack attached to their tail (pendantic note: the Union Flag is flown from onshore flagpoles, but when it is attached to a ship it is the Union Jack). The USA has/had some orcas, to which they presumably laid claim, performing in California, but I do not know of any comparable European ones.
The mass stranding was a pod of Pilot whales, a different species from orcas.

Car 54, Where are you ?
