She said her husband was “suffering from serious mental health issues” and is now “receiving in-patient hospital care where he will stay for the foreseeable future” as she asked for privacy for her family.
Well, if he’s ill then he’s still on the payroll, right?
I wasn’t interested enough to find out but I guessed it was him due to repeated media adjacent story placements. All a bit pathetic, really.
That’s rather sudden. Only yesterday he was having lunch with King Charles. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised, Charlie having that effect before, probably.
Only yesterday he was having lunch with King Charles.
What idiot allowed that to happen? They must have all known.
He’s about the only telly presenter I know by name apart from Loathsome Lineker. Pity it wasn’t LL but there you go.
Newsreaders should have good voices. Mr Edwards has; Moira Stuart did in her day. Apart from them you used to have to listen to Radio Three to hear an attractive voice.
The Americans are odd: they employ male “anchors” with decent voices and females with horrible ones. God knows what their logic is.
Apropos nothing at all, I’m old enough to remember when the police delighted in printing the name of every alleged sexual offender on the grounds that there might be other “victims” who would feel safe in coming forward and the BBC thought it had a duty to fly over houses of filming police raids while gleefully broadcasting the name of the absent owner.
Or is my ageing brain playing tricks and it didn’t happen?
I hope we are not about to see a cynical spin operation designed to shift attention and responsibility onto what is still one of the establishments most hated enemies – the Sun.
See what working for the BBC does for you, then?
Smoke and mirrors. For all I know the whole thing is a got up job by his enemies within the BBC to knife him.
I wouldn’t put much weight on any claims by anyone. Apart from anything else there will be compo-hunters around.
Anyhoo, if it is Murdochites vs Beeboids then I quote the well known “Pity they can’t both lose”.
According to the fragrant Mra Huw
He was told about the allegations on Thursday
We know the BBC was told about them in May (and so was the police)
TWO MONTHS?
Good job he got a massive pay rise just before all this was made public. Must have done wonders for the magic DB pension. So lucky they discussed his pay rise as a matter of urgency…
Strikes me that it might have been cheaper to just snort charlie off of some brass’s tits.
Ah, the old Ernest Saunders defence – I’m bonkers me!
Ah, but think of the lessons that the BBC will learn.
“Only yesterday he was having lunch with King Charles.
What idiot allowed that to happen? They must have all known.”
I’d assume it was his agent, but you make a fair point- who on earth would want to be seen in public with that sausage-fingered jug-eared cunt?
“…you used to have to listen to Radio Three to hear an attractive voice…”
“Used to” being the operative term. Now it’s all matey regional accents and girls who can’t pronounce the letter “t”.
Apart from the sainted Sean Rafferty, of course.
If Huw needs cheering up in hospital I am offering pics of my arse for a cut-price £10k
It brings a whole new world of meaning to cheap thrills.
Apparently you pay more for a single sex ward, but it’s worth it if you want to retain your dignity.
He was 60, they were 16/17, probably younger than his kids.
There can be no spin on this.
It’s the same with all these filthy degenerates, be they in the church, the BBC, politics, private islands……
They have power, influence, money, privilege.
If they must, a few more years and it’s a different world. If he wants sex (of whatever flavour), pictures, videos, whatever, there are adults in their 20s who could provide (even pretending to be children if he must).
But no, it HAS to be children or the under age.
What is that drive in people who ostensibly have everything?
My two penneth, for what it’s worth, is that it’s some perversion of imposter syndrome. So many of these movers and shakers”, this political/media class, are really such little people, elevated laughably beyond any intrinsic worth by the ludicrous rewards that seem to accrue for so many actually mundane positions.
Well, he’ll be news (sort of) until the next one.
And if he can’t get fair treatment?
Well, that’s the world this type has helped create for the little people.
Oh dear, seems like he’s actually one of them!
I was not particularly interested in the name of the presenter – but I see that the Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_controversies has already been updated.
When you look at the BBC Controversies page it seems that, taken as a whole, the BBC false short of the reliable brand it aspires to. Defund the BBC.
Charlotte Green was always my favourite, I was gutted when they made her redundant and would listen to the footer results especially to hear her.
Alas it is true about R3 these days. Many of the female presenters are terrible ( there is one in particular who really grinds my gears and yet she so obviously knows her stuff, it is such a shame ). The people who do Through the Night are good.
There used to be one on Classic FM – Tony Scotland, always jaunty jolly chap. When he was on R3 in the 1980s he was Mr Funereal 🙂
Mark, I used to work with a gayer. No problem at all, his body his choice and all that, but just the same as with old blokes and dolly birds, in some of them there is a penchant for considerably younger men – referred to as ‘chicken’. Makes them feel young and still ‘attractive’.
Plod are saying no criminality took place, so questionable actions, which may possibly lead to early retirement, but so what?
I think that it was Auberon Waugh who sagely pointed out that the whole reason for lowering the AoC for gayers was so that older men could bugger young boys without having their collars felt. Came too late for Jonathan King.
I’d have thought the frisson of doing something illegal would have added to the experience.
Plod are saying no criminality took place, so questionable actions, which may possibly lead to early retirement, but so what?
Part of the weirdness that is having someone read stuff at you, is at least a pretence that they are somehow respectable. Frank Bough couldn’t continue presenting once it was known he was into bondage. People won’t accept formal information from knickery perves.
Same with Prince Andrew, I suppose. Nothing technically illegal but not acceptable even as a pompous twat.
@Addolff
I’m as liberal (in the proper sense of the word) as anybody when it comes to this sort of thing.
He has betrayed his wife, embarrassed his children, pissed of a lot of people etc etc.
That is one thing (actually) several, but it could all be resolved sooner or later.
The yuk factor with all of these people is the under age thing. The taboos against this are SO strong for all sorts of reasons, the prime ones being the corruption of innocence (don’t sneer at the back there) and the perverse power dynamic.
If he’d been swiping 25 year olds, I’d probably be thinking “good on you”.
@Mark: ’He has betrayed his wife, embarrassed his children…’
It was the wife who brought the curtain down. That must have taken a great deal of courage. Poor woman.
Odds on him discovering he’s ‘really a woman’ when he gets out of the booby hatch?
@JuliaM
Damnit, I’ve been saying that to my friends – how he’ll be declared stunning and brave when he decides he’s a she.
When did the UK suddenly get so prudish? Basically it seems that he was a “Sugar Daddy” to a lad who was 17 and continued to give him cash for a number of years, eventually getting up to £35k in total. As is “allegedly” often the case with Sugar Daddies he was sent photos to keep him sweet. Had it been 17 year old girl would it have been such a story, or would it just have produced a wry smile? It’s not something that the police consider criminal. Also WTF has it got to do with the BBC other than being a very minor celebrity gossip story concerning an employee which they made into a major media frenzy.
Anyone consider that giving around 10% of one’s pre-tax salary to a teenager sounds more like hush money than for services rendered??
I’m of like mind. £35,000 for some naughty-BUT NOT CRIMINAL!!!-photos?
Yeah, right…
Given the history of the Old Bill and Aunty, we may never know.
I’m sure Mrs Edwards will stick with him, given his new lump sum severance award (which will be top secret) and his recently enhanced pension. The fact that they announced his huge pay rise just before he was ID’d is two fingers up to us in the same way that the £25961.53 a week to the racially abused (yeah, right 2) ex-footballer is.
I also dont understand how the police, notoriously slow to do anything, can be so sure no offence has been committed
Interested: with that sausage-fingered jug-eared….
One of the welcome developments in the woke adulteration of language is that new expressions are available for those who would hesitate to use the traditional ones.
Now, thanks to the sensitivity linguists of the NHS fearful of demeaning the hordes of transmen, we can talk about the sausage-fingered jug-eared bonus-hole.
Now tell me that that isn’t progress!
“I also dont understand how the police, notoriously slow to do anything, can be so sure no offence has been committed”
Thats easy, he’s part of the liberal establishment, therefore by definition no crime has been committed unless completely categorically undeniable evidence of one has been made public. Even then there’s plenty of wiggle room for the State apparatus to exonerate their own. Look at the Boris vs Keir partygate scandals. Arguable Keir Starmer’s beer and curry night in a rented room was more of a social event than Boris’s birthday cake in his own house/offices, but one got defenestrated and the other will be Prime Minister soon. Thats how ‘justice’ works in the UK nowadays.
Jim said, he’s part of the liberal establishment
Indeed. And all those bleating about how awful The Sun is for reporting this would be screaming for a public execution if the supposed villain had been e.g. someone from the Tory party.
Cue the old joke about “if the left didn’t have double standards…”
@Chernyy ” he’ll be declared stunning and brave when he decides he’s a she.”
Already started :
“What a sad, sad story this is. I’m thinking of my colleague, who is unwell.” Jeremy Vine
“we can talk about the sausage-fingered jug-eared bonus-hole.”
I suppose Mr Edwards’ interest was in the malus hole.
dearieme “Smoke and mirrors. For all I know the whole thing is a got up job by his enemies within the BBC to knife him,,,,Anyhoo, if it is Murdochites vs Beeboids then I quote the well known “Pity they can’t both lose”.”
Well yes,,, the newsnight attempted spin job against the sun last night was laughable. Yes – “Huw did nothing illegal” is a very makeable point, but news night editorial line was to try and spin it so that the “real” scandal was the sun muck spreading and hinting he did bad things involving minors. When corrected by adam bolton and rod liddle, you could tell kirsty walk had the editor in her ear demanding she push back. And i agree with you this is all part of a proxy war in the media.
“Huw did nothing illegal”
How does she know that? Not even a qualifier ‘as far as we know’
Facts are still emerging, let’s see
“How does she know that? Not even a qualifier ‘as far as we know’”
Well quite. I bet Plod haven’t swooped and confiscated all the electronic devices in Edward’s possession to check them for pictures of underage (for the purposes of owning naked photos at least) children. So how can they know he hasn’t got any?
AndyF: it has been a PR disaster scenario for the Beeb. Also in most organisations morally questionable behaviour (as judged by the public) is sackable for bringing the org into disrepute. The Beeb should have let him go when they first knew about it, and he definitely shouldn’t have been fronting up their major state productions.
They are now swimming in the poo and all this hypocrisy by the Beeboids is just an attempt to get them out without too much smelly stuff sticking.
starfish- yep i should say the makeable point was that he may not have done anything illegal.
The bbc took that and said given he’s now in hospital plus he may not have done anything illegal, and the sun haven’t provided proof he did but implied that he did…this raises serious questions about robust and fair journalism. As i said media on media attacks.

oh yes and it was Vicky not Kirsty
@dearieme
Loathsome Lineker
I didn’t bother searching. Non story, “Child” was 17, not a child. Same as Prince Andrew alleged sex with 17yo ‘girl child’
However, I wanted culprit to be LL or Jeremy Vile
