Hmm, OK

A social media influencer who extolled the virtues of a vegan diet of raw tropical fruit has died, reportedly of malnutrition, exhaustion and infections.

Add that to our list of diets that don’t work therefore.

  1. Why do people (and it’s often women) get so completely invested in these bizarre delusions. There is also that woman in Idaho who killed her kids because she thought they were zombies. It all seems so alien to those of us who believe we have our heads screwed on properly .

  2. It is possible to be healthy on a vegan diet but it requires a hell of a lot research to ensure you get all the nutrition you need and usually involves supplements by the ton. Far easier to eat fish and meat occasionally, and eggs and dairy regularly.

Fruitarians though are insane. Ditto those who think raw food is better than cooked.

  3. One does like the fact that this has now been tested by experiment.

Alas those who should pay attention will attribute it to racism or global boiling.

Don’t forget Brexit – there’s nothing that Brexit can’t do! (Apart from repeal all the micro-managing eu laws, that’s far too much like work for our civil serpent quisling blob.)

  5. It’s the sort of story that makes me wonder just who our ancestors picked on to burn or drown as witches. Was it, possibly, loony women like this poor, damaged soul?

  6. In the past I have gone on “mostly fruit” diets to lose weight.

It actually worked a treat and I I felt pretty good in myself, but I only did it for a couple of weeks. My weight is pretty stable these days, since I have given up the booze.

Someone who does it ad infinitum is pretty barking.

Possibly, but there are lots of fruitarians (or those who claim to be) living much more healthy lives than this woman was.
I think she was an anorexic who found a specialist niche; she’s have most likely died a similar death not eating regular foods properly.

  8. Don’t forget Brexit

Given that this was a Russian living in SE Asia, I’m not sure even the most gullible would blame Brexit for this one. Ukraine, maybe.

    “ Don’t forget Brexit – there’s nothing that Brexit can’t do!”

Brexit is becoming the new Thatcher.

It depends upon the fruit. If it’s just sugary mush then all you’re doing is replacing a normal diet with fructose and all the problems that brings (sugar crashes, insulin dependence, etc.), but something very broad with lots of green fruit would probably be great. AS A DIET. You certainly wouldn’t want to live on it full time.

As for the other nutters, the ones who eat cooked meat (Paleo and the like) tend to do very well, since our bodies are actually built for that sort of thing. Nice wild boar roasted on a wooden spit over a fire. Yummy.

The raw meat boys…not so much. Enjoy your wide variety of worms and internal parasites.

  11. @ Ottokring
Starting my meal, instead of ending it, with fruit helped to lose weight when I was conerned about my weight. I always had enough protein as well, cut down on fat and starch.
I don’t influence social media but I have been asked to be on standby to represent my club (if G can’t get someone better) at an age-group 25 years younger

Good idea that. Roughly conforms with I believe the answer to weight loss is. Don’t eat so f***ing much. So taking the edge of your appetite’s at least a start.
