Africa holds the future workforce for the ageing economies of the west, according to one of the continent’s leading financial figures, who also said it was time to ditch the myths around corruption and risk.
In an exclusive interview before this weekend’s World Bank meetings in Morocco, Akinwumi Adesina said there was a resurgence of belief in Africa’s economic prospects and attacked negative stereotyping, adding that there was “every reason to be optimistic”.
Now midway through his second five-year term as president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Nigerian former agriculture minister said the continent’s demographic advantage, expanding middle class, and vast investment opportunities meant a shift was under way.
A Nigerian government minister, Ho Yus.

If a delightfully confident 70 IQ tribesman whose own tribe never invented the wheel or writing can’t do the complex, knowledge-based jobs of the future, they’re not worth doing.
Which is good Steve, since the said 70 IQ tribesman that comes across the Channel in a rubber dinghy isn’t coming here to work at an job (complex, knowledge-based or not), but to get his free house, free welfare and raise a multitude of Islamic retards on the taxpayers dime.
No wonder they’re hard to dissuade, since they think we are a soft-touch and ripe for their sort of victim playing grift.
The sooner an actual Conservative or hard right government turns up, the better to keep these leeches out of the UK.
JG – the chances are that our next hard right government will be an Islamic theocracy.
To be fair, at least African and Muslim countries know how to deport unwanted foreigners. They do it all the time.
Ah, Steve, there’s every chance that neither your tribe nor mine “invented the wheel or writing”. Unless you are some sort of Mesopotamian I suppose.
BiP – Speak for yourself, my ancestors were riding around on chariots and having a great time while David Lammy was still getting his first PhD in Shapes and Colours.
Mīn lyftcræft is ful ǣla!
“the Nigerian former agriculture minister said the continent’s demographic advantage, expanding middle class, and vast investment opportunities meant a shift was under way…”
…he then explained how his incredibly wealthy and unjustly imprisoned relative needs your help to transfer some funds to mount an effective defence case, so if you would like to provide your bank details…
Why would Africans migrate to ageing decadent Europe when the prospects in their homeland are so inviting? It’s baffling.
“70 IQ tribesman”
That’s on the high side for sub-Saharans. See:

A border collie has an IQ of c.55…
By definition average IQ is 100 so that country ranking is a non-starter. Apart from that, Hong Kong and China being on the leader board is, from personal subjective experience, doubtful. Someone at wisevoter.com has a very creative imagination.
Asiaseen
Isn’t 100 the average of USians?
I’m seconding asiaseen’s doubts about China & HK. There must be some real clever fuckers here bringing the average up, that’s all I can say.

“By definition average IQ is 100 so that country ranking is a non-starter” is a non sequitur. The average IQ in a given population can be above or below the global benchmarked average IQ. And average IQ is generally taken as the 95-115 band.
I think he was the bloke who emailed me last year, writing that his iPhone 14 Pro Max had fallen down the toilet and he urgently needed to phone his Mum about the results of her operation and could I send him £30,000 to buy another one most urgently…
Immigration in the UK is a very confusing business. One of my sons married a delightful Brazilian lady who trained as a solicitor. After several years of traveling the world he decided to bring her to England and settle down.
She could only stay after she proved she’d got a job. She’s had to take exams to prove she knows a lot about England and understands our culture. They’ve had to pay £11,000 for the privilege.
On the other hand, if you just come in a rubber dinghy to stay you get 4 star accommodation and we give you money and everything else you want, plus free healthcare. No learning, because it’s essential you bring your customs and beliefs with you to diversify our backward little nation.
I’m thinking of taking an exam in it…

That’s mostly historian’s bollox. These things were repeatedly independently invented. It’s not even hard to see the path that leads to the invention. Just happens that the earliest examples were found where they were because the where they were had the best preservation conditions. It’s like the myth of the wheel not being invented in the Americas. Of course it was. It’s that they didn’t have much use for it. The wheel requires both a road surface & a draft animal to have utility. They didn’t have the latter so they didn’t build the former. They built thousands of miles of pedestrian highways. But the requirements were different. You don’t cut through geographic features if you can lay steps over.
You do have a point, BiS. Says I thinking of the pyramids of the Americas.
The *last* person I would listen to about corruption would be a Nigerian government official.
