Nigel must be fancying his chances

Or, rather, when he finds out he probably will be.

Geert Wilders largest party in Netherlands?

Is it time to dust off that list of where Reform candidates are standing? And can I afford to take part in a GE?

  1. My guess us that the Establishment parties will cobble together an anti Wilders coalition which will collapse like the German coalition is doing.

To his credit Geert is now trying not to sound like a swivel eyed loon, so as to get the unknown NSC and the “conservative” VVD on his side.

Pity the farmers only managed 7 seats, tho’.

  2. This time, remember the lesson of Brexit. Getting the largest number of votes doesn’t mean you’ve won.

I could quite easily foresee a Labour/Conservative (with the wetter end of the Tory party) coalition if it meant keeping an upstart new party out. Elections have long ceased being how voters choose to be governed.

  3. Oh yes…. The amount and Tastyness of the Salt has been excellent today…

I could do a whole analiusys on what happened last night, but there’s still sooooo much Salt to reap…. 3:)

  4. Normally Grikath’s English puts us native speakers to shame. I think there might have been a celebratory glass raised….

  5. My bro in the east of the country is bit stunned.

He hates Timmemans and wanted the green/Socialists to lose but did not want Wilders or the VVD to do well either.

    Poor chap is quite befuddled.

  6. I suspect if this was 2016 this thread would be humming with dozens of comments. But nobody expects much change to come from elections nowadays so there’s not much to say.

To be fair, the parties of the left won way more seats than the parties of the right, so it’s quite reasonable for those parties to band together to keep Mr Wilders out. That’s proportional representation for you.

  7. @Tim , My Dear Host, my apologies for using gamer slang to express the level of gloating currently experienced by this humble commentard.. 😛

All the others: You are sorely mistaken…

    True winner: BBB.
They only needed one seat to legitimise their whopping 16 seat result in our Senate/HoL.
They got 7 seats, which is more than the Established Parties that either bombed, or lost their votes to Timmerman’s “completely democratic offensive”.
They are Key to whatever coalition people manage to duke out.
Ignore them, and you’ve got a serious problem.

Overall, the entirety of the popular vote is anti-EU, anti-Establishment, and anti…. welll.. all that we grouch about on this blog.
We voted for…. well… not quite Lions… but pretty close to what you can actually achieve without resorting to Unpleasantness.

Regarding Timmermans and his lot. As things stand and seats are officiously allotted ( December 1st is the official announcementof the results.) , it is next to impossible for ClogSpud to have his way.
    He failed. Quite magnificently.
And to be honest quite amusingly, as he has been spotted on camera to… Act Like Spud…. on the realisation of the Sinking of his Grand Designs.
Amusingly, he’s stated to plan to “defend democracy” in Opposition, even after he has been Served by said same democracy…
No doubt he’s aiming to select a fresh population to give him the democratic result he’d like.

    Regarding Wilders….
The man is first and foremost a Pragmatist.
Great and fierce Debater, but extremely experienced as a politician, and the first ( also on camera) to realise that being in Government, and possibly actually leading it, is a quite different deal than being in Opposition and Having an Opinion.
The Meedja will probably be all over him for actually being pragmatic and … dare one think… making concessions to build a consensual government out of the election results.
Y’know… to sort out shit and get stuff done. Which is actually why most people voted for him, because the rest of the lot have proven to be …. a big fan of putting Ideology before Results… in the run-up to these elections.
Which we’ve seen decades of by now and are… pretty much Done With.

When it comes to Wilders economically, he’s not the “extreme right” , “swivel-eyed moron” people make him out to be,
He’s actually a pragmatic centrist with light socialist tendencies. Quite conservative in that, even.
Most people here would approve of his notions in that regard.

If Wilders manages to jump all the hurdles..

Will we get Nexit? Nope, but a good chance on a re-run on the quite public question if we even allow the Euro Parliament to trump our sovereignty.. ( which was a solid “No” last time, but got …Ignored.. )
    So….new referendum… yes, probably..

“Imported Cultural Enhancement” … tough one…
A serious attempt at ending the “Dual Citizenship” conundrum. Ozzy style. You’re either with us or you aren’t.. Choose…
Good shot at “Illegality” becoming a proper offense. Probably just as much enforced as weed …. But at least it’s on the books..

Very definite set of laws that ensure that any “Enrichment” who choose to make nuisances of themselves … end up deported, or at least denied any status other than “Unwanted, Proven Record”.

A quite likely end to confessional education, or at least a definite end to any exception.

And other minor Stuff, most of which generally doesn’t involve Lions. But could have…

But let’s see if the Establishment manages to lock Wilders out. Interesting Times…

  8. Bloke in North Dorset

The amusing thing about Wilders’ win is after the shock comes the bewilderment. Looking round last night and this morning at various lefty type outlets the consensus seems to be:

But …but … but … the opinion polls said he was 3rd.

Proving once again their inability to learn anything and to look outside their own bubble.

  9. Thank you Grikath. Thinking a national government should act in the interest of it’s nationals is or should be a centrist take.

  10. Bongo

“interest of its nationals is or should be a centrist take”

Extreme far-right in our glorious new technicolour age….

    Tim

As prospective candidate for the Algarve or Iberia? I like it…

  11. He’s actually a pragmatic centrist with light socialist tendencies. Quite conservative in that, even.
Most people here would approve of his notions in that regard.

Most people here would probably want to know what the hell a “quite conservative, light socialist, pragmatic centrist” actually is. Sounds a bit like Rishi Sunak, frankly, minus the Diwali candles.

Will we get Nexit? Nope . . .

    Sounds familiar.

“Imported Cultural Enhancement” … tough one…

Well yes, the tough one he was elected for. Let’s face it, very few voted Geert Wilders for a really strong dose of quite conservative, light socialist, pragmatic centralism. They wanted the massive fucking invasion of Muslims to be stopped; to be free ethnic Dutch living unmolested in the Netherlands. If all they get is some piffle about dual passports and unenforced illegality being at least on the books, well – they just jolly well might not turn out to vote again when the coalition collapses.

Very definite set of laws that ensure that any “Enrichment” who choose to make nuisances of themselves … end up deported, or at least denied any status other than “Unwanted, Proven Record”.

Ah, is he signing up for the Rwanda program? That’ll work.

Oh well, at least the farmers should be able to stop the greens starving the country to death for a while. And hopefully someone else in the coalition can temper his clown show pro-Russian insanity.
