Surprise!

Children who drink caffeinated drinks such as Coca-Cola are at greater risk of future addictions as their brains develop differently, new research suggests.

A study of 2,000 children aged nine and ten in the United States found that having daily caffeinated fizzy drinks was associated with poorer memory and greater impulsivity.

Analysis of brain scans by a team of addiction experts indicated that these children would be more susceptible to “harder drugs” including alcohol in the future.

The surprise is they didn’t mention either sugar or ultraprocessed foods. Terribly behind the fashions these septics.

  1. Did this ‘study’ control for other factors?

    Was there a control group?

    Who are these ‘addiction experts’?

    Ignore and bin

  2. Amazing that they found enough US kids who didn’t drink caffeinated beverages, or “sodas” as they call them, to form a control group. I wonder what else they had in common.

  3. Fizzy drinks are mostly consumed alongside fast food, so this study should read as “Children, whose parents forgot to go food-shopping so decided to drive to McDonalds for dinner instead, have greater impulsivity” – which is hardly an original idea.

    MAH CHILDREN NEED WINE

  5. I was given tea to drink as soon as I could drink from a cup, (1953) and later coffee before my teen years when instant coffee became popular in the UK. This was commonplace.

    Both contain caffeine.

    Research needed.

  6. Shirley it’s children with poor memory and no impulse control more likely to drink fizzy drinks.

Ooo look, my lawn is wet, and miraculously it was raining!
