Dunno, Honey

What does it mean to erase a people – a nation, culture, identity? In Gaza, we are beginning to find out
Nesrine Malik

Unconvinced this is the first time. 1944 in Europe someone had a damn good go at it. 1990s Sudan had the (your) Arab north trying it on the black south.

Which is, I think, what pisses me off the most about Ms. Malik. There never is that reflection about the ills of the society she herself comes from. It’s always everyone else is ghastly.

  1. It’s the Lefty modus operandi. They tend not to be in favour of doing good things and anyway mostly can’t be arsed. But it’s really easy to prove you’re so much better than everyone else, as Nessie constantly does. Remember we are in the Post Truth Age…

  2. The bloke in Wales beat me to it. Perhaps she could ask Hamas what it means as they started this war, and crucially have the means to stop it. If they were to surrender then am guessing what is left of Gaza would be able to be saved. However, instead they’d rather rule over a wasteland. What a ghastly woman – must be the season for them…

  3. Artists killed, journalists silenced, libraries and mosques destroyed. What will be left to bind the survivors together?

    Their hatred of Jews?

  4. “What does it mean to erase a people – a nation, culture, identity? In Gaza, we are beginning to find out”

Because what’s been going on in Yemen, Myanmar, Niger, China and half a dozen other places for a decade or more “we” haven’t noticed and, besides, it isn’t a reason to get outraged because it’s Muslim v Muslim, African v African or Arab v Arab.

  5. Palestinians are not a nation nor a distinct culture, but in any case the West Bank is full of them so whatever they are will survive – alas.

  6. “What does it mean to erase a people – a nation, culture, identity? In Gaza, we are beginning to find out”

No , Love, we’re not, because we don’t live in Gaza.

But we are beginning to find out in the UK, because we do live there, and you are one of them doing the fucking erasing.

    Gratitude ?

  8. “What does it mean to erase a people – a nation, culture, identity? In England, we are beginning to find out”.

Although I see several others have already made the same point.

  9. The Germans and Japanese ended up blaming their war leaders and decided they quite liked the people who had bombed the crap out of them.

Perhaps ordinary Palestinians will come to the same conclusion. But if they remain loyal to the Hamas leadership then I’m not going to shed a tear over the erasure of their culture.

  10. Nothing would benefit humanity more then destruction of every single mosque and the pernicious evil that they spread.

  11. Biden has been supportive of Israel’s campaign in Gaza, but this position has alienated a large portion of Democratic voters. According to pollster YouGov, as of late November, just 22% of them sympathized with Israelis more than Palestinians, compared to 14% holding the opposite view. The same metrics for Republicans were 63% and 3%, respectively.

America isn’t very American anymore and these are also terrible, awful, inconceivably bad numbers for the Israel lobby. Would never have been possible in 2003, but look how much ruin has been heaped on the US in 20 years.

The Regime can/does ignore public opinion for a long time, but not indefinitely. As the current crop of elderly white (or ‘white’) people running the Democratic Party dies off they are being replaced by Diverse people who more or less openly hate Jews and whites.

So Israel is on borrowed time, as are the USA and the peoples of the West. The fire escapes are blocked and somebody disconnected the smoke alarms, if we’re going to escape death we need to break some windows.

  12. Since that “nation”, culture and identity have only existed since 1965, I’m not sure it’d be that much of an issue, even if it were true. Prior to then (i.e., the founding of the PLO), “Palestinian” was most commonly used in English as a mildly antisemitic euphemism for “Jew”. I’d say “ironically”, but it’s not; the switch is a deliberate erasure of the Jews’ ancient origins in the region: these people are “Palestinians”, ergo – millennia of history and centuries of English usage notwithstanding – the Jews aren’t. (And if you doubt it, read up on “temple denial”. Someone wants to erase history, all right: Jewish history.)

The people in Gaza are Arabs, and that culture and identity aren’t in the least danger of being wiped out.

  13. The Chinese are doing it right now. In larger numbers and have been for decades – but these people want to harp on teh hoorble juice for defending themselves?

Hell, this isn’t even China’s first time.

  14. In somewhat related news, remember all that sucking up and water carrying for the American regime and their wars?

    It was all for nothing:

Biden ditches trade deal talks with Britain

But don’t worry, we are still on the hook to pay for Ukraine.

  15. How come all the people calling fir a ceasefire aren’t calling for the hostages to be released first as that would remove a large reason for Israeli action there

  16. The Palestinians are a Semitic race, as are (some of) the Israelis – this is very confusing, especially for twats like Corbyn

  17. Bloke in North Dorset

How come all the people calling fir a ceasefire aren’t calling for the hostages to be released first as that would remove a large reason for Israeli action there

Its probably too late to demand the handing over of Hamas leaders, the cowards will have left Gaza. At least we can look forward to reports of their untimely deaths in strange ways and strange cities over the next 20 years.

  18. Its probably too late to demand the handing over of Hamas leaders, the cowards will have left Gaza.

As I understand it, the leaders left the Gaza shithole years ago for a life of luxury in Qatar.

Hopefully assorted Mossad agents are booking nice holidays to the gulf…
