Erm, Yes

Liz Truss has rewarded Brexiteers and those personally loyal to her with peerages and other awards in her long-awaited resignation honours list.

That’s what a resignation honours list is for. To reward personal loyalty.

Shrug.

  1. Honours committees are made up of senior civil servants (‘official members’) and people who are independent of government (‘independent members’). All honours committees have a majority of members who are independent (except when they don’t).

    For example:-

    Sport
The Rt Hon Sir Hugh Robertson KCMG DL – Chair of the British Olympic Association
    Independent members:
Pippa Britton OBE – Vice Chair, Sport Wales
Dame Liz Nicholl DBE – President, World Netball and lately Chief Executive, UK Sport
    3 x vacancies
    Official members:
Susannah Storey CB – Permanent Secretary, Department for Culture, Media and Sport
Jayne Brady MBE – Head of Northern Ireland Civil Service

80% female which might explain the recent plethora of gongs for somewhat underwhelming gals.

The diversity committee is certainly diverse. Whether it accurately represents the British population is questionable.

  2. Thank you John.
    Interesting.
At least half those committees should be abolished as the market system has it covered. I recall Sir A Hopkins saying his Oscar was more important than his Knighthood as it’s voted for by peers in his profession. Recognition for being good at your craft from the Queen not required. He still collected it though.
