The hypocrisy is gorgeous, innit?

Scottish councils are proposing to raise rents by as much as 8.4pc to cover their costs, while loss-making private landlords constrained by the country’s rent cap continue to sell up.

The City of Edinburgh Council, which declared a housing emergency last month, is consulting on rent increases of 4.1pc, 5pc and 8.4pc over the next five years.

However private landlords face a rent cap of 3pc until at least next March.

Edinburgh Council said an 8.4pc rise would help it upgrade 12,400 existing homes to high energy efficient standards over the next ten years.

Do as I say, not…..

  1. “The Hypocrisy Is Gorgeous, Innit?”

More of this over in Spudland where Murphy is flying to Jersey today. Despite calls for an end to air travel to ‘save human life from extinction’. It’s OK, though. He has a reason which justifies it. Going by boat would be inconvenient and uncomfortable

  2. …while loss-making private landlords constrained by the country’s rent cap continue to sell up.

What’s the betting they will deny any link between their actions and the outcomes?

  3. Indeed, all these energy-saving upgrades do cost quite a bit of money. And it goes on the rent.
    Nice little earner for someone.

  4. What a pleasure it is to be working and a landlord in the most highly taxed (and following the Scottish Budget today even more highly taxed) part of the UK with its stellar public services.

    Cvnts, absolute fcking cvnts.
