AP really are idiots

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina’s annual inflation soared to 211.4% in 2023, the highest rate in 32 years, according to figures released Thursday by the government’s INDEC statistics agency.

The data reflects the strong impact of a series of shock measures, including a 50% devaluation of the nation’s currency, implemented by right-wing President Javier Milei in hopes of eventually bringing the country’s roaring inflation under control.

Milei took office on 10 Dec 2023.

  1. As any fule kno, the only way to cure inflation is to print and then spend $800 billion on an Inflation Reduction Act.

  2. Argentina annualised inflation rate in November 2023: 160.9%
    In December: 211.4%.

=> “The data reflects the strong impact of a series of shock measures…implemented by right-wing President Javier Milei in hopes of eventually bringing the country’s roaring inflation under control.”

However, the forecast for the December monthly increase was 30%; actual increase was 25.5%.

=> “The data reflects the strong impact of a series of shock measures…implemented by right-wing President Javier Milei which have already reduced inflation after only 3 weeks in office”.

  3. I’ve noticed several AP & Reuters articles lately cheerleading Bidens inflation reducing spending, and how it’s all actually really really good and definitely economically sound.

  4. You always need one villain to control your org for some very short time. Then you can blame him for every problem.

(But if you’re not careful, he comes back.)

  5. @Herb Munster (and everyone, really)

I would be very cautious about inflation stats – any stats, in fact – emanating from Argentina these days, given that the entire apparatus of the government was captured a while back.

It is a stone cold certainty that the stats will be bogus and designed to malign Milei, because if they don’t kick him out and he co tinues to sack people and close down agencies he’s actually got a reasonabhle chance of turning things around, and that would be a disaster not just for the scum hitherto in charge of Argentina but the scum still in charge of much of the rest of the world.
