Missing the point

A government minister has defended the military’s “woke” policies, as he said the Armed Forces must reflect today’s society.

Andrew Murrison, the minister for defence people and families, told MPs that he was “guilty as charged” if he believed in making the military a more inclusive and diverse workspace.

We don’t want the military to reflect society. We want them to defend it. This is different and it’s not a subtle difference either.

Still, fortunately this fool will be out of office within the year. But will the successor believe the same drivel?

  1. Still, fortunately this fool will be out of office within the year. But will the successor believe the same drivel?

Assuming we’re getting a Labour government again, I expect matters will be worse.

  2. “Still, fortunately this fool will be out of office within the year. But will the successor believe the same drivel?”

    Well, yes.

Not sure this really matters that much. Who is going to invade? Do we have enough hard bastards for current hard bastard operations? Filling the army with girlies and trannies is fine for all the humanitarian aid missions and shuffling paperwork. If things get desperate, we launch nukes.

  3. He’s only missing the point if you think it’s about “defence people and families”.

If you realise the point is “A sales pitch for another cushy, high salary public sector job with travel and expenses and a nice pension” it makes a bit more sense…

  4. «If things get desperate, we launch nukes.»

Well the nukes are all festooned with LGBT bunting and the MoD would lose its Stonewall accreditation if ever they were launched so, sorry, no, that won’t happen.

  5. Filling the military – especially the army – with aggressive, testosterone-fuelled competitive males is a win-win scenario. Not only does it help fulfil the proper role of the military (to terrify the enemy into not attacking us) but there is also Gaetano Mosca’s useful insight. It’s socially useful to have such males in groups, where they can be controlled, burn off energy, and be given useful tasks to do. You’d rather have them doing war-games on Salisbury Plain than on the dole next door to you.

Mind you, you don’t want nonces and Somalis next door to you, either, so maybe the current leadership have a point.

  6. We don’t want the military to reflect society. We want them to defend it.

    Whose society?

And does it deserve to be defended?

Interested – Yarp. Our domestic politics work exactly the same way post- colour revolution regimes do.

  7. Whose perspective on society should be reflected? Since we’re all so diverse with different ways of knowing, blah blah. I highly doubt the minister’s perspective as expounded at the next dinner party are entirely congruent with that of the people likely to be up to their neck in the UK’s next military adventure.

  8. I think it’s fair to say that the overwhelming majority of society thinks that the woke diversity bollocks is just that, complete bollocks. So if the dill wants to reflect today’s society, he’ll abandon all this diversity, inclusive crap.

  9. I do’t care about trannies and girls in the military, as long as they are the militarily elite of the population. Which is entirely the point. The military MUST NOT reflect society. It must be a specific elite of society. We do not want the military to be 40% pensioners, 70% obese, 20% illiterate, 30% fifth columners….

  10. Jgh – The military MUST NOT reflect society. It must be a specific elite of society.

But it is. I do recommend speaking to British army officers whenever you get the chance.

They’re exactly the sort of people you describe, a specific elite of society (posh thickies who hold the same Luxury Beliefs Tony Blair and Penny Mordaunt do).

Even if we had some sort of conservative government, the Tarquins and Arabellas who run the army and MoD would still prioritise climate change and Diversity. And proudly, they’re not trying to hide their agenda.

  11. At times it’s the militaries job to kill people mainly because they are of a different race. This is not something that is encouraged in normal society.

  12. HB – Well put.

NB that I’m pretty sure they – the important people – don’t see “society” as including the likes of us. A Tony Blair, Penny Mordaunt or Lord P view gammon as something unpleasant they’d like to scrape off their shoes. There is no bond of kinship there, and they certainly feel no obligation to us.

AndyF – At times it’s the militaries job to kill people mainly because they are of a different race.

We should want the arms of the British state to be as weak and noodly as possible then.

Because it’s prole white men who are the hated enemy they aim to defeat. If that’s not true, why is saying “white lives don’t matter” enough to get you promoted by Cambridge University, while saying “white lives do matter” is enough to get you sacked from your job and harassed by the police?

They’ve already erased you from the telly, predictive programming innit. We in danger now.
