The Labour party is in my blood. Here’s why I’ve just cancelled my membership
Owen Jones
How is that virulence inserted into the human body?

her proudest achievement was stopping a family being evicted by a private landlord over Christmas
Bah . Christmas is a Quarter Day. If you can’t pay the rent out you go. They expect the landlord to wait until Lady Day ?
my decision isn’t based on a desire to see Labour for ever in the wilderness. Reaching it has been a gradual, painful process of realising the party won’t even do the bare minimum to improve people’s lives, or to tackle the crises that have led Britain to catastrophe; and that it will, in fact, wage war on anyone who wants to do either
Amazing. Are Guardian columnists developing sentience?
Good to see Owen maturing politically and as with most teenagers growing out of supporting socialist political parties as they realise it isn’t a sustainable model and that competition/free markets and capitalism really is the way to go/grow.
I might listen to him when he starts shaving.
But if he’s left Labour, who’s he joining?
Rowdy
Maybe the ‘Worker’s Party’ on the grounds he is pro Hamas – proof of his idiocy.
It makes me even more sad that the Dark Web move to fund his abduction to Eastern Syria at the time of ISIS failed.
The Labour party is in my blood.
I didn’t think it was his blood members 🙂 of the Labour Party had been in.
This tragic story just goes to show how serious and debilitating Labouritis can be. Yet a cure remains a faraway dream and many people have to live with this terrible condition. Surviving in a nightmare of irrational outbursts about how the world just isn’t fair.
Please give generously to research and one day we might be able to treat people like this and find them a useful place in the community.
Presumably the real reason he’s leaving labour is because he is now minted having made a fortune begging money from his supporters and is now a member of the 1%.

A line which works for all major political parties. Almost as if there was nothing to choose between them.
You can just smell the desperate attempt to be seen as one of the people. Your great grandfather was a railwayman? So was everyone else’s great grandfather. Or coopers, bakers, or working in shops. No-one was doing search engine optimisation or diversity awareness courses back in 1926. And being a railwayman put you well above the average earners back then.
Note he doesn’t mention that his mother is a computer science lecturer and his father was a professional union organiser.
It’s also a good sign that Starmer won’t be utterly terrible if Jones is against where Labour are going.
“Contrast this with Diane Abbott, Britain’s first Black female MP, who was suspended after immediately apologising for an Observer letter in which she argued that Irish, Jewish and Traveller people are not subject to racism “all their lives”. She has been left in limbo”
That’s a racist trope, lad. They’re better off without you.
Are Guardian columnists developing sentience?
Not that Guardian columnist. What he’s doing is striking a pose.
I posted elsewhere: From the article he appears to have resigned because there isn’t enough Jew-hatred in the Labour Party.
“It’s also a good sign that Starmer won’t be utterly terrible if Jones is against where Labour are going.”
The most dangerous socialists are the apparently ‘moderate’ ones. Corbyn would have promptly self-destructed and never have lasted a full Parliamentary term, while Blair won three elections and did huge damage…
Contrast this with Diane Abbott,…. She has been left in limbo”
Oh I seriously doubt it. Diane Abbott can’t even bend down far enough to check if her shoes match let alone limbo.
Contrast this with Diane Abbott,…. She has been left in limbo”
I feel dirty and scarred after having that mental image flash up.
