Let’s go for U O shall we?

The Conservative Party is finished. The only question is whether it loses badly or is utterly obliterated

I think that’s being very hopeful there from Allister Heath. But we can hope, eh?

  1. I think we all knew politicians were liars but they’ve set new standards of corruption and evil behaviour that even Sit Kneels’ corrupt, evil, thick as mince mob seem to some as an alternative. Me, I’m for piano wire and lampposts…

  2. If they are completely obliterated, it will be fun watching the career politicians scrambling to realign with revealed public attitudes and demonstrating their new credentials. Old-style Tories will be rarer than Nazis in late-1940s Germany. If Tommy Robinson turns down talks with Michael Gove I’ll know that some progress has been made.

  3. I fear that, after the coming apocalypse, the ever pliable Mr Gove will be visible slithering around on top of the wreckage.

  4. They have alienated voters on the right by veering so far to the center they are approaching being a left wing party.

They have alienated voters on the the left by failing to mention this so the “left” continues to portray them as extreme right wing.

They have probably alienated voters in the center too, though I’m not sure if there are any voters left in the center as it’s far too confusing a place.

    Obliteration is on the cards.

If ever I feel about to be overcome with cheerfulness I read Allister Heath’s column so it’s a little disappointing that he can envisage something other than utter obliteration for the Conservatives.

Lots of lefties continue to entertain the delusion that the Tories are awash with Thatcherite evil. I have a mate who’s like this but is unable to point out how the 2024 Tories differ from 2024 Labour. If pressed he mutters about Brexit (about as popular with Tory MPs as Labour) and “posh twats” (even though he is a fan of Rory Stewart FFS). It’s just tribal.

Personally, I hope to see the Tories annihilated and replaced by a genuinely conservative party. Gove will need fire and stakes and a crossroad….

But they can count on the awesome political genius of Rishi Sunak.

    You’re right. Oblivion it is.

  8. I’ve now discovered that Reform are fielding a candidate in my constituency so I won’t need to spoil the ballot this time.

  9. @Stoneyground

Nothing would amuse me more than the Conservative vote collapsing and voters switching to Reform to keep Starmer out. The icing on the cake would be if they were to succeed.

  10. “Posh twats”
I seem to recall seeing something a while back that showed that there were more privately educated MP’s on the Labour benches than the Tory benches,. Working class MP’s are in short supply these days and MP’s with any real world work experience outside politics is declining fast

IIRC, in 2015 Miliband’s shadow cabinet had as many PPEs if not more than Cameron’s cabinet. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same proportions exist at the top of both parties.

Mine too, I’ve just discovered. I had been thinking about offering, but someone else can do the work.

Not that he’ll win; most likely result is it’ll let the LibDims back in – but as others have said, that’s part of the necessary cost of getting rid of the current “Conservatives” in the hope that something useful can replace them.

No. They are the Labour party wearing a blue rosette and much of what they do is more left than Starmer’s Labour. JRM brands Gove, Hunt and Sunak as socialists

Then today we have Gove classing a Socialist party as far-right extremists – Gove more left than socialists

Some Arab Emirate is missing out on an exceptional grand vizier.

Just throw in a decent salary and the occassional hand maiden bound hand and foot and the Slithey Tove will be installed by the weekend.

    From the Grauniad:
“ Founded in 1968, the British National Socialist Movement is described by the counter-extremist organisation Hope Not Hate as one of the few openly Nazi groups still active in the UK. After a period of dormancy, its activities included opening a gym in Manchester last year and seeking to promote a “fitness network”.”

A gym? Not quite as funny as funding a fascist party by selling women’s underwear, but definitely in the same vein.
