What I will note is that this is happening at the same time as the Tory establishment is very obviously collapsing. So too, though, is Labour which has abandoned everything it seems to stand for, leaving the much of England, at least, without any realistic left-of-centre option available in elections at present.
….England doesn’t desire a centre left option?
I mean, could be. Politicians follow what they think will get them elected and perhaps it really is true that the English – as opposed to the Celts – are further to the right than the current left of centre?
Starmer and his Brains Trust have to be careful not to scare the horses. There is less chance that they’ll end up like Jezza, but could blow it enough not to get a working majority
So all the compulsory Trans Islamism in schools and so on has to wait until after the election.
It had me thinking : the Mick politicians had convinced themselves that they were going to win the referenda yesterday through faulty polling. As it turns out they obviously did not count the undecideds. I wonder how many Dont Knows/Cares are in the UK polling figures.
The other thing that bothers me is that Starmer’s team can’t really be such a big a bunch of morons as they appear. Is it all an act ? Why do they do it ?
I’m sure Sir Kneel would not have appointed anyone who showed the trace of a functioning synapse for fear he’d be outclassed in the intellect stakes. I did think that Hummy Useless in Jockland and Dick-head Drakeford in the land of the Welsh would put the English off socialism, but the fakeTories have been so catastrophically inept that even Sir Kneel’s mob might get a look in.
Be afraid, be very afraid…
Politicians follow what they think will get them elected
Is that why Jeremy Hunt kicked off his latest punishment budget by announcing £1m for a monument to Muslims?
Crikey.
Steve,
If you want to grasp how useless the Tories are at this, look into the Guardian story about it. Marco Longhi said something quite reasonable about not having specific monuments. Followed by:-
A Tory MP from the centrist One Nation caucus said: “30p Lee’s lapdog Longhi doesn’t seem to even know his own constituency, which itself has a sizeable Muslim population. Perhaps if this gang of right-wing wannabes actually knew their own voters they could be dangerous, thankfully they spend too much time in the Carlton Club plotting their next appearance on GB News.”
The problem with this is that it doesn’t matter if you have a “sizeable Muslim population” (about 4.5% in Dudley). It’s about whether those people even care, and whether they’re going to vote for you because of it. Or for that matter, whether the other 95% of people might think “these fucking money wasters, I’ll vote Reform”. I suspect Muslims in Dudley would mostly prefer to be on an NHS waiting list for less time.
These one nation wankers have no idea who might vote for them, or why. I don’t want a special aetheists war memorial. I want the money spent on health, education, roads, or just put back into people’s pockets.
On a general thought about all these memorials, how many people really want them? Memorials matter to the people who lost in wars, the wives and children, the people who knew people, but anyone under 70 didn’t know the fallen. And they built the memorials they wanted in the post-war years.
WB – I did see that quote, which is worth quoting again because of how revealing it is:
30p Lee’s lapdog Longhi doesn’t seem to even know his own constituency, which itself has a sizeable Muslim population. Perhaps if this gang of right-wing wannabes actually knew their own voters they could be dangerous, thankfully they spend too much time in the Carlton Club plotting their next appearance on GB News.
Note the unconcealed contempt for Lee Anderson and GB News, and even more so for voters who agree with Lee Anderson or watch GB News. This is from a Tory MP.
I half read a rather silly piece from Brendan O’Neill, something along the lines of a plague on both their houses, there are special WW2 memorials to Catholics and Sikhs (who knew?), yadda yadda.
But in reality there was zero demand for a Muslim WW2 memorial, and Muslims in general don’t give a fuck about WW2, or anything else that gammon care about. Winston Churchill’s statue isn’t safe in London anymore, so anybody still thinking WW2 is a source of shared national pride in 2024 is a moron.
But this announcement did come in the context of Muslims very effectively intimidating MPs over Gaza, chasing them through Westminster, and scaring the shit out of them so badly MPs recently hired private security guards.
So for a Conservative Chancellor to make that announcement shows that intimidation works, and the Tories are not on our side. We already knew both of these things, but it’s nice to have your prejudices confirmed.
Not my sandbox, but tell me if I have this right – the Brits have a choice between a “conservative” party that is in thrall to the Green Blob & the multiculti insanity or a left-wing party that wants to do all that on steroids?

Spoken like any Labour or LibDem drone. I’d like to think this quote was fabricated, not least because it has one Tory MP mocking another for being right wing (horrors). However, I fear it is verbatim. And a very good clue as to why both the Tories and the nation are circling the plughole.
Sikh and Gurkhas I can believe because they are seen as ethnic groups and besides paid for their memorials themselves ( we have a nice one that was unveiled by St Joanna of Lumley ).
A Catholic memorial ? Where is that ?
There is a huge memorial to the Indians who served in Mesopotamia during WW1. Trouble is, it is in Basra.
By the way. War cemeteries that house Indians have inscriptions on the War Stone in Hindi, Arabic and English
“God is one. His is the victory.”
On the subject of memorials, when researching my greatgrandfather’s grave it is made very clear that war cemataries deliberately mix all religions and none. It is made explicitly and abundantly clear that the overriding principle is EQUAL in death. These basterds want to even overthrow that.
Esteban
Yes, pretty much as you put it.
The current choice seems to be…
Socialists
Greenie Socialists
Blue rinsed Socialists
George fucking Galloway
Or the Reform Party
Exactly jgh
Having studied this. The decision was made that every soldier interred would have a portland stone headstone 2’6″ high and I think 18″ across. The standard lettering would give their name rank serial number, regiment and presumed death date. There would usually be a regimental badge on there too.
Relatives were allowed to have a small motto and say whether they wanted a cross or star of Davud or whatever inscribed. Despite all that., they are quite uncluttered.

Indian cemeteries have everyone together : Buddhists, Hindus and Moslems.
Otto – the Catholic war memorial isn’t really a Catholic war memorial, it’s a few tablets in Westminster Cathedral commemorating around 200 Catholic men, most of whom died in WW1. It’s not a monument to The Catholics who died in the wars, it’s a memorial to men such as BASIL BUTLER BOWDON, a lieutenant in the 2nd Batt Lancashire Fusiliers.
The Sikh memorial from 2022 is a dapper and tasteful statue that any of our finest memorial builders from Victorian England would’ve been proud of.
These memorials were erected in good faith, so to speak. But the permanently smirking Mr Hunt inspires considerably less confidence than John Hurt as Richard Rich.
I was under the perhaps mistaken impression that the majority of those of the Islamic faith who fought in WW2 were, in fact, on the side of the Wehrmacht.
