Avictory for the right in the Portuguese general election this week could reverse the social advances of the past few years and herald a return to the “moral, theoretical and political bankruptcy” that followed the 2008 financial crisis, the leader of the small Left Bloc party has said.

Speaking to the Guardian as Portugal prepared to go to the polls on Sunday in a snap election triggered by the collapse in November of António Costa’s socialist government, Mariana Mortágua said rightwing and far-right parties did not have viable solutions to the country’s housing, healthcare and wage crises.

Yeah, quite. Far better to stay with the left so that Prime Ministers can receive birbes from lithium mines in peace…..

Can you communicate with the Prime Minister? A mate of mine is in the birbes trade so we could make a little commission here…

A victory for the right

It’s not often nowadays that you come across a ‘right’ standing alone without a ‘far-‘ prefix!

Speaking of “social advances”, I saw a bunch of French women in the news yesterday, celebrating the fact that abortion is now enshrined in the French constitution for some reason.

A nation with below replacement level birthrates and above replacement level Islamic and African immigration is celebrating its decision to kill more French babies…

She won’t be alright mate, will she?

Idk how long Weimar Europe has in it, but it’s probably not long now.

What Portugal really needs is some nationalists for Costa to go into coalition with. Works here. Madeira not up for it?

The French thing is madness. Contitutions are for specifying how a state functions not to proscribe policy.

My understanding is that this is just stage two and to complete it has to pass a national referendum. Will this be The Voice part two?

TheFrench Constitution is relatively easy to change.
Two ways;
– Referundum. Not very popular now, as the hoi poloi insist on voting for what they want rather than for what they are told they need.
– A majority vote in favour in the House of Deputies and TheSenate.

‘A majority vote in favour in the House of Deputies and The Senate’

A very bad idea Recusant. Our Aussie experience is that, while the hoi poloi sometimes vote for stupid things, the pollies are much worse.

I hope someone manages to set up some sort of referendum vote to give the people a choice.

You’d think for something like a constitution you’d at least want a qualified majority for the political option

You make it sound a if the disappearance of France as we know it would be a bad thing.

Ah thanks. I thought it was: pass house, pass senate, pass referendum. I didn’t realise, even after reading the “how to modify this constitution” part of the current constitution, that it was OR and not AND.

It’s in our self interest to have France populated by the French. Those crooks and muslims invading France are not running away from colonial oppressors, they’re running away from other crooks and muslims.
And soon enough they’ll be running away from the crooks and muslims in France…

>”. . . the country’s housing, healthcare and wage crises.”

1. Caused by the laeft-wing and far-left parties.

2. Who don’t have a solution either – they just want to double-down on what doesn’t work.
