This is just such a terrible surprise

There are fewer than 500 “affordable” cars for sale in London that comply with Sadiq Khan’s Ulez rules, data show.

Just 461 vehicles that meet the capital’s emissions standards are available to buy for less than £2,000 in Greater London, according to figures from Auto Trader.

Londoners can claim a £2,000 grant for scrapping older cars that do not comply with Ulez emissions rules under a scheme introduced by the Mayor of London last year.

Yet the statistics show that the supply of affordable Ulez-compliant second-hand cars has all but dried up.

Distinctly pump up demand, no change in supply – because these are old cars, no one produces new supply at £2k – and quantity available falls. Lordy – someone should write a book about this.

  1. Remember, from their point of view, this is not a bug it’s a feature.
It will force increasing numbers of poor people out of cars and onto public transport.

  2. Martin Near The M25

And the Ulez zone includes outlying areas with hardly any public transport. So more chuckles for TPTB at the struggles of the plebs.

Bexley Council said: “The poorest households will therefore be faced with the dilemma of relying on poor or non-existent public transport to get around, finding over £4,000 a year to pay the ULEZ charge or finding the money to buy a compliant vehicle.”

That’s not technically a dilemma but what the heck.

  3. ‘someone should write a book about this’

The difference between this time and all the other times is that this time it’s deliberate, and anyone writing a book about it runs a fairly serious risk of having their bank account and social media accounts shut down, and getting a visit from the plod to ‘check their thinking’/arrest them for racism.

  4. “Yet the statistics show that the supply of affordable Ulez-compliant second-hand cars has all but dried up.”

Nonsense. Doesn’t have to be for sale in London. Friend just got her car replaced (due to this Khan shite) and popped over to Kent to pick it up.

For added nonsense, her perfectly good (older) car couldn’t be sold usefully outside the sad cunt’s Spazland because if scrapped it got more dosh. Hence, yes, as CD says, this is just one big fucking lie (again).

  5. Anecdotally used cars that aren’t ULEZ compliant have collapsed in value – someone I know in London was given a used Mercedes convertible for a big birthday. Nice thing. But it’s only Euro 5 so now he can’t sell it because nobody wants it, and every time he drives it it costs him £25

  6. If anyone’s got one that’s LHD and going really cheap I’ll take it. Even better if it’s already Portuguese registered….
