As boneheaded corporate decisions go, the one by NBC News to bring on Ronna McDaniel as a paid contributor is right up there.
Whatever twisted purpose hiring the former Republican National Committee (RNC) chairperson was meant to accomplish has been lost. That may have been gaining access to Republican bigwigs, sending a cynical message of ideological diversity or boosting ratings.
Instead, the network has badly damaged its reputation and credibility. The hire makes a statement that, for this major US news organization, there are no consequences – rather, a juicy reward – for public figures who continually lie to the press and citizens. Her contract is reportedly worth $300,000.
Tsk. Can’t have Republicans on he TV. Or as journalists. People might get the idea that it’s acceptable to be R. And where would we all be if that vile idea took hold?
It would never be allowed on the august BBC!
After basically doing what the Democrats wanted the Republicans to do for years (eg ignore all sorts of voting shenanigans), she doesn’t even get to hang with the cool kids 🙁
Remember: the Left *hates* the Right, while the Right thinks the Left is wrong. You will never get credit for behaving well with them.
Instead, the network has badly damaged its reputation and credibility.
It’s always funny watching journos talk about reputation and credibility.
Not as funny as seeing them mauled and eaten by lions will be, but funny.
Bringing on a powerful election denialist is like putting a standing chyron on the Nightly News: ‘Lying is rewarded here’
Bitch who spent years lying that US elections were decided by Russia is concerned about lying.
The hire makes a statement that, for this major US news organization, there are no consequences – rather, a juicy reward – for public figures who continually lie to the press and citizens.
Diversity is Our Greatest Strength, climate change, men can be women now, and make sure you’re triple masked, vaxxed and boostered!
’The hire makes a statement that, for this major US news organization, there are no consequences – rather, a juicy reward – for public figures who continually lie to the press and citizens.’
Is that the press that is happy to lie to the public?

The ongoing lucrative media careers of James “Russia laptop” Clapper and John “crossfire hurricane” Brennan among others have already proved that point beyond any reasonable doubt.
This, from people who hang with Al Sharpton

Ideological diversity is twisted and cynical? Heaven forfend a TV station should try to boost ratings!
My 2d worth: this hire is an indication that NBC execs see which way the wind is blowing. And so does this activist posing as a journalist, hence the tantrum and soiled pants.
Living in the UK, I couldn’t give a monkey’s what American news channels get up to in their made up exclusives.
However, here in this (now) septic isle, some numpties are whinging because serving politicians are presenting television news programmes, in which various topics are discussed, usually with people of opposing views, and which viewers can give their opinions. As St Gretl Thunderbox would say, “How dare you” ? It’s up to party chief whips to tell you what your opinions are.
. . . people who hang with Al Sharpton
I thought we were feeding them to lions.
The latest news is that former Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel was fired by NBC News on Tuesday because other existing ‘talent’ objected to her hiring.
Which paints a worse picture for NBC than hiring her in the first place.
For much of history, or at least US history, the press was blatantly partisan. This was often reflected in the newpapers’ names – the Podunk Democrat or the Nowheresville Republican. Ironically, many papers still carrying Democrat in their name were once very proslavery.
At some point they became less so and at least endeavored to present an image of being impartial. You can argue that the media has always been mostly leftish, but 50 years ago it was less blatant. I’ve heard this ascribed to improving printing technologies lowering costs beginning in the early part of the 20th Century. Papers could produce more, consolidate, and they wanted to offend as few advertisers as possible. Perhaps there’s something to that. Probably other causes as well.
Now newspapers have lost most of their classified ads and TV media competes with a multitude of channels plus the internet. The ad revenues aren’t what they once were, and they’ve become extremely partisan again. Kind of like a pendulum swing.
It is bemusing to hear about Chuck Todd going on about credibility.
Ironically, many papers still carrying Democrat in their name were once very proslavery.
Proof that at one time Democrats were open and honest about their beliefs. Nowadays standard “black is white” revisionism states that southern democrats weren’t actually democrats, or that they didn’t support slavery, or that they never existed in the first place, or that – look, a squirrel!
PJF – unless we can clone Smilodons, and I hope we do.
TD – yarp, there’s fuck all money in the papers.
The Sulzbergers’ stake in the NYT was worth $1.2Bn in 2004, now they’re mere millionaires. And that’s (still) one of the most successful newspapers in the world.
Declining industries are horrible places to work, it’s no wonder journos are thicker and yet also angrier than ever. Soon, they will find the most valuable way they can serve their fellow man (discount handies in a Denny’s parking lot).
If I look at the photos of many of the reporters at our local paper many are obviously recent grads, green as could be, and they make a lot of mistakes. They really didn’t think intelligently about what career they decided to follow because your prospects working for a newspaper are like deciding to become a stagecoach driver in 1910.
“ Ironically, many papers still carrying Democrat in their name were once very proslavery.”
They were also anti abortion up until the late 1970s, although TBF the Republicans, esp the right, were pro abortion.
Umm, don’t know if you’ve noticed but Michael Steele, former chair of the Republican Party, has been a commentator on NBC (and MSNBC) for close to a decade now.
Weird the demented hosts had meltdown. Ronna McDaniel is a RINO and did all she could to lose elections.
She’s now likely to sue NBC and maybe some hosts
