There has always been respect for Disher, but not always recognition outside the crime cognoscenti. “He’s the crime writer’s crime writer,” says author Michael Robotham, who has sold 8.5m books. “He’s the crime writer that other crime writers read. He’s incredibly influential.”

“It has always puzzled me as to why he wasn’t recognised more widely,” says Sue Turnbull, crime fiction expert and senior professor of communication and media at the University of Wollongong. “He’s always been a brilliant writer. He’s certainly in the same league as Peter Temple and Peter Corris.”

Those last two household names ’round my way.

A title like that should be ringing alarm bells.

    Rule Number One ….

Not called Bruce, that’s why there’s no recognition.

  3. The Disher books are excellent.
The ‘Wyatt’ series is like ‘Lovejoy’, only with added lethality. The Kittyhawk series is profoundly depressing in the coverage of all the petty crimes of the lowlives and druggies. The latest outback series is a lovely portrayal of small town South Australia.
    Recommend.

  4. I rather liked dear old Sir Jack Brabham’s story about him coming to England to advance his motor racing career. When he confessed to a mate that he was quite worried how he would be received by the Brits because “he was where all the convicts came from”, his friend replied “Don’t worry Jack, that’s where they were all trained up…”

But he’s talking about the failures who got caught…

  6. Most people read mediocre or crap books. I think because it takes so much more time than watching movies or listening to an album, people don’t even know what a good book is. And they recommend mediocre or crap books to their friends.
