Somewhat related over here: so 18-22 year-olds aren’t informed/intelligent enough to realize that college loans have to be repaid, therefore loans should be forgiven, yet a 9-year-old boy who thinks he’s a girl definitely is smart enough to know what he’s doing.

There’s quite a bit of that about on the left. They want 16 year olds to be able to vote, but heaven forbid they stand trial as an adult for heinous crimes. We are told their brains are still developing up to 25, so harsh sentences should be avoided before that. They can buy a long gun at 18, a handgun at 21, but can go into the military at 17. It all depends on the political expediency of the day.

Gender is an abstract term used in language and does not apply in living things.
Can a tulip have gender, or a horse or a cat? Gender in language cannot be changed.
