Especially those foreigners in Africa!
The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are coming under pressure to use their financial might to persuade Ghana to reconsider a proposed law that could lead to anyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ being jailed for three years.
Charities and campaign groups are calling on the global development bodies to tell Ghana they may stop funding the country if the proposed legislation – which will be challenged in the country’s supreme court next week – comes into effect.
Palmerston sent gunb oats, apparently we’re now to stop supporting the Supplenentary Development Goals if thoseblasted Johnny Foreigners just don’t do what we say.
Tsk.
Don’t they realise that we are right?
Couldn’t this be considered colonialism? This imposing a foreign ideology on another country? I thought that was bad.
Dunno. Seems a pretty sound principal. I certainly practice it. If someone’s got the begging bowl out, the largess can come with conditions. The receiver can find themselves with some restrictions on their autonomy. If they don’t like the stipulations, maybe they ought to go somewhere else for their money.
So the moral to the tale is; if your touching the IMF or the World Bank for a few quid what do you expect? On the other hand, you wouldn’t like mine either.
Brighton Queers for Palestine may need to broaden the scope of their campaigning.
BiS – As a member Ghana would have to be de-banked which would have all kinds of ramifications. Also one might argue that the world was a simpler place before we were all obliged to celebrate every sexual fantasy and quirk so if the proposal means you can be gay but let’s not festoon Accra with rainbows then the law might have some merit.
I’m sure that all the shrieking do-gooders would be the first to shriek that it was wicked colonialism/imperialism/racism etc if the blackmail was for something they didn’t like.
Of course to me this is just another wonderful excuse to keep all my dosh to spend on me.
If they don’t like the stipulations, maybe they ought to go somewhere else for their money.
The answer of course is to go to a loan shark like Hatchet Xi or Knuckles Vlad.
Bloke in Spain,
I don’t mind the principle, it’s just this condition.
I’ve never quite figured out why people were so against the gays, and why the change happened, but I broadly think it was about how much poorer we were 100 years ago and that when people depended on each other just to get fed, you wanted people like you around.
It’s the same with this thing of educating girls in Afghanistan. To do what, exactly? Most of them are married at 16 and having kids and are housewives. There aren’t a whole lot of service jobs in Afghanistan. Maybe there will be in a few decades, but at their stage of development, teaching boys is what they need.
The “promotion of proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values” bill recommends jailing anyone convicted of identifying as gay for up to three years, imprisoning “promoters” of gay rights for up to five years, and increasing the term for having gay sex from three to five years.
Seems fair and reasonable to me. Don’t do the gay if you don’t want to pay.
I dunno, if we wanted to fuck up Afghanistan even more, what better than a horde of educated HR power skirts?
Elana Berger, executive director of the Bank Information Center, a charity that campaigns for better transparency, accountability and inclusion in development finance, said the World Bank was in a unique position to “persuade Ghana to reconsider” with the prospect of losing its promised $3.8bn (£3bn) of funding.
Man, these people really hate not being allowed to fuck children.
She said the Ghanian parliament’s vote to pass the bill in February despite the threat of losing World Bank funding suggested “the desire to harm LGBTQ+ people trumps the desire to develop the economy”.
Man, these people really hate democratic national sovereignty and not being allowed to fuck children.
The World Bank last year halted some funding to Uganda due to the country’s newly passed anti-LGBTQ legislation, which includes the death penalty or life imprisonment for some same-sex acts, saying “fundamentally contradicts the World Bank group’s values”.
“We believe our vision to eradicate poverty on a livable planet can only succeed if it includes everyone irrespective of race, gender, or sexuality,” the bank said.
They’ll never stop lion, just like Mumm Ra. If you’re white, and living in a country your white ancestors built, these people want to steal all your property and exterminate you.
“It also seeks to punish anyone who supports or advocates for LGBT people, including human rights defenders, medical professionals, journalists, teachers, and landlords in violation of the right to freedom of expression and association, with a prison term.”
Suddenly “freedom of expression and association”, which is illegal for right wing white people in the UK and Europe, becomes mandatory when it involves boys who might otherwise go unbuggered.
TMB is correct in observing that some gay-hating regimes are viewed rather differently than others by the bien pensant international community.
As the met police would say when standing idly by while a swastika waving masked individual chants in favour of jihad “It’s all about context”
Well the last time the US were in Afghanistan, the head of the US military occupation was bitching that US troops couldn’t sleep at night for the noise of the local Afghan troops raping their 10 year old Bacha bazi boys.
Any bets on how long before Ghana experiences a ‘Colour Revolution’?
Funny how they never demand that Sub-Saharan African countries increase racial diversity…
I for one wouldn’t dream of telling Ghanaians what they should do with their sex organs, but I would like to reserve the right to tell them to stay put and not come to the UK. Do your bumming in Accra, not Accrington.
As Homer Simpson might say while drooling:
“Mmmmm, gunb oats.”
It sounds like Ghana has built up some jail capacity, while the UK has none spare at all, and isn’t going to repeal any laws that have caused them to get so full.
So bring them Ghanaians here. The planners and builders I mean.
I’m rather sympathetic to bringing Israel here for similar reasons. At least when they steal land, they build housing on it.
“The Ghanaian family values” bill recommends jailing anyone convicted of identifying as gay for up to three years, imprisoning “promoters” of gay rights for up to five years, and increasing the term for having gay sex from three to five years.”
Isn’t locking up gays with lots of other men and no women not exactly a punishment?
Reminds me of the Family Guy ‘gay conversion camp’ skit:

Also don’t forget that Ghana is mainly Christian. I suspect that these institutions do not attempt to assert such authority over Mali or Mauretania.

By the sound of it they haven’t even heard of trans-sexuals. Lucky bastards. Ghana got good beaches?
Oi! That land was paid for, fair and square, all above board. If the people who used to live in those swamps and desert didn’t want Jews buying it, they shouldn’t have sold it to them in the first place.
