Britain risks ‘being left behind’ if it fails to embrace net zero, warns Joseph Stiglitz
Only when I got to the end of that did I realise it wasn’t about Spud
Our ignorant politicians and eco-grifters (Dale Vince, i’m thinking of you here – actually, is there something about the name ‘Dale’? I mean we also have the worlds foremost ‘not a meteorolgist’, ex Royal Navy observer, Jim Dale plying his trade on the telly every five minutes) keep shouting that ‘Britain is leading the charge towards net zero’ or other such claptrap, ignoring the fact that the sane world (ie: those nations not infected by WEF young global leaders or Club of Rome acolytes) is heading in completely the opposite direction, save for paying lip service to cutting emissions and building a few vanity projects to fool the stupid (see the above).
‘Britain risks ‘being left behind’ ‘
Can’t think of a better argument for doing nothing.
The Tories are already doing everything he asking – bonkers on net zero, borrowing and spending at record levels – and the UK is on the brink of ruin. So he demands we do more of the same and borrow expensively to do it.
I presume his pseudo-Nobel was for something technical which gives him no authority on either what needs to be done or how to do it….
I may be harping on about this, but what I find truly worrying is the lack of inhibition in public life. The mention of Dale Vince is an example. He produces “green energy” (which isn’t “green”), bungs Sir Kneel £1,000,000 (sorry, DONATES TO THE LABOUR PARTY) Sir Kneel says we will be even more “green”. Slimy Genghis bungs some organisation £800,000 who then say “We need ULEZ to stop killing babies!”.
And of course “We must eliminate carbon dioxide from the planet, which only humans produce, to stop it dying!” which is such rancid bollocks it defies belief.
Having brought up three children by acting in the way I wanted them to develop, I find the hypocrisy of those who scream loudest about Gerbil Worming a bit of a giveaway.
So the bloke who won a Nobel peace prize for doing Sweet Fanny Adams tells us all that 98% of scientists who want to carry on as scientists believe in Gerbil Worming then buys a property that will be underwater next week for $12,000,000 and installs the biggest privately owned propane tank in the world.
He wraps his political opponent is wrapped up in crazy lawfare and nobody asks him where he got $12,000,000 from to casually throw away.
End of rant, I’m desperate for my cornflakes. As part of my new diet, as approved by Nigella, I’m foregoing milk and I’m curious how the vodka will work out…
Thank you Grist. I hadn’t thought of quaffing good old Net Zero vodka!!
Dunno, Jim Dale was quite good in Carry On Screaming.
“I think Labour needs a more aggressive public investment agenda. It is the same problem that we have had in the United States with under-investment in infrastructure.”
The US government is in $34 trillion of debt and has recently spaffed trillions on “inflation reduction” and alleged “infrastructure” bills.
“If Britain does not go for the green transition, it is going to make life more expensive and leave the UK behind.”
It’s amazing how many people in public life these days just blatantly lie whenever they feel like it.
The former Corbyn advisor also blamed the Government for fuelling the rise in long-term sickness in the UK since Covid, which has sparked a worklessness crisis.
The number of people forced out of work from ill health has soared by 600,000 to a record 2.8 million since 2020, driven largely by a rise in mental health issues.
But the vaccines were safe and effective and the only problem with lockdowns is that we weren’t imprisoned hard enough.
Ergo, Mr Stiglitz muses that the real culprit is Them Bastard Tories not bunging enough money to Our NHS.
Nobel prize winning genius, folks.
“Britain risks ‘being left behind’ if it fails to embrace net zero, warns Joseph Stiglitz”
When you’re on the highway to hell, it’s best to keep in the slow lane.
“Nobel prize winning genius, folks.”
Stiglitz is just more proof that Pol Pot was right.
Pol Pot? There was a man knew the true value of intellectuals. The pyramids of skulls was a nice touch. They don’t make ’em like that any more.
‘Doctor James Dale’ was the husband of the fictional writer of ‘Mrs Dale’s Diary’, a wireless serial broadcast by the BBC on the old Light Programme from 1948 to about 1970. I listened to it religiously. (Wow, showing my age!)
Never trust anyone who says Moar Investment. Unless they’re going to name investments and can back them up, it just means chucking more money at rubbish.
Don’t forget Dale Evans was a terrific pardner to Roy Rogers
Murphy is more or less Renfield to Stiglitz’s Dracula.
Sorry to repeat myself, but how come this was a passing comment in the article:
The number of people forced out of work from ill health has soared by 600,000 to a record 2.8 million since 2020, driven largely by a rise in mental health issues.
A 500% increase in the number of people saying they’re too ill to work since the Covid regime came into effect. Over 2 million (so far) British adults knocked out of the labour force, most of them now suffering mental health problems.
These are astonishing numbers. This is an astonishingly catastrophic failure of public policy.
Why is this not a bigger national scandal than the Post Office Horizon system? Where are the demonstrations, public inquiries, and urgent messages of concern from the King?
PS – also sorry I got my sums wrong (long day and also I am quite stupid sometimes) but c’mon… that outcome is extremely unreasonable, isn’t it?
And it’s just one of the measures by which lockdowns fucked us. But nobody’s responsible.
“And it’s just one of the measures by which lockdowns fucked us. But nobody’s responsible.”
Its the equivalent of the ‘If I owe the bank £100,000 which I can’t repay, then I’m in trouble. If I owe the bank £10bn and can’t pay, the bank’s in trouble’ truism. When those responsible for and supported the fuckups are the vast majority then its not their problem.
