Well, yes

Spurlock was also later criticised for not disclosing that he was an alcoholic or for acknowledging that his drinking during the making of the movie could have impacted his health.

  1. I only saw a bit of this film because, like a Michael Moore ‘documentary’ it was badly staged and concocted by an obvious liar with an agenda.

As someone in the comments if the article said eating McD for 30 days 20 years ago isn’t going to kill you.

Another point in the article : he complained of gaining 4 or 5 pounds in a weekend. Mate, I can do that. It is all water and a good dump will expel most of that anyway.

  2. I’m pretty damned certain that if I ate the then largest McDonald’s meal three times a day* while only walking a modest 5,000 steps I too would put on weight rapidly.

I would be equally as capable as Mr Spurlock of regaining my normal weight within a short period of stopping.

    * a current day Big Mac, large fries and large coke meal is “only” (mainly because the meat weighs just 3oz pre-cooked and a lot less cooked) around 1,200 calories but I guess the old super-size made it a far bit more. Now if only he had opted for a 840 calories double whopper…………..

Indeed. 30 years of alcoholism on the other hand….

    Supersize Durchfall?

  5. McD’s get picked on because they’ve got good marketing. They serve a good reliable product in a predictably clean & inviting ambiance.(outside the UK, anyway) I can remember my NuYawk friend telling me about flying into Karachi & being hungry, making straight for the Golden Arches. Where else in Pakistan would you want to eat?
What they serve is good quality simple food. A BigMac is a ground beef patty, bread & salad. The basic ingredients – less the lettuce – of a spaghetti bolognaise. Italian is unhealthy eating? You want unhealthy eating go for a doner kebab. Elephant’s leg. Some Cyp friends in London have a meat business churns them out. I’ve seen the guy in his gumboots shovelling the ingredients off of the floor into the press. They’re for drunk English cvnts after the pub. No Cyp would be seen dead eating one. Or any “Indian” curry. Better not to even think about a high street Chinky.
People get fat from eating to much? That’s a revelation! A BigMac is probably one of the few foods you could live on nothing else but, perfectly healthily.

  6. When I was working in Hong Kong 40 years ago, about three times a week I’d be doing field work before going into the office, so I’d get a McD breakfast. Photos show me remaining skinny.

  7. BiS – McD’s get picked on because they’ve got good marketing.

But also because, like Greggs or turkey twizzlers, it’s prole food. Baccy is also a prole treat, that’s why it now costs £76.20 for 100 grammes of Golden Virginia. U is at war with non-U.

“It’s for your HEALTH”, said the gimp suited MP in the homosexual conga line at a fetish club.

Liberalism: The haunting fear that someone white and working class, somewhere, may be happy.

Loads of places but I’d want to take advice from a local before I picked anything outside of a major chain hotel. Islam actually helps with food hygiene (as does Judaism) and for similar reasons.

Spurlock was nothing more than a conman. And a not particularly talented one at that.

All he really did was make a few bucks off some confirmation porn that was designed to appeal to the snobbishness of progressives…. You know, the sort of people who won’t get caught dead eating McDonalds and embrace anti-capitalism and anti-corporatism as more of a fashion statement than anything else.

He and his “work” was mostly forgotten a couple of days ago, and it will be forgotten again in the next few.

  10. @dennis

Doesn’t help his case that it’s precisely the kind of people who bought into that kind of stuff who also memory-holed him over MeToo, so who’s left to remember him?

  11. Lots of people never grasped that McDonald’s was about efficiency. They assumed corners had been cut on the food, when it was about running it like a machine.

I mean I don’t think the food is great, but it’s fine. I have one of their£2 chicken wraps which are about as healthy a lunch as you’ll find and not half bad

  12. Thank goodness he was multiply vaccinated with the safe and effectives.

It would have been so much worse for him had he not!

  13. “Islam actually helps with food hygiene (as does Judaism) and for similar reasons.”

I once met a vet who did abattoir inspections. He told me that in his experience the Jewish ones were highly competent but the Moslem ones were as night to day. Hell they didn’t even sharpen the knives properly.

  14. P.S. That comment has nothing to do with the current unpleasantness in the Middle East. That is not my war.

  15. Baccy is also a prole treat, that’s why it now costs £76.20 for 100 grammes of Golden Virginia.
Really, Steve? I believe I might have to pay £15. If I was poor enough to have to smoke roll-ups. As it is, I smoke extra-long filter at £4.50/20 & am quite happy to hand them round.. Something tells me the Spanish are far less stupid than the English, which is why I chose to live here. You did it to yourselves, so you know who to blame.

I do mean that as well. Germany has AfD, France has RN, Spain has Vox. Almost every other European nation has an active party of the Right. Some in government And what have you lot got going into a general election? It’s the great British problem. The slightest whiff of any politics even slightly to the right of centre gives you all a fit of the vapours. Do you really think the BNP were far right fascists? You obviously never met any members. You really think the EDF are who they’ve been painted? Our friend Theo encapsulates the British right. So wet you could shoot geese of it let alone snipe.

I think the Conservatives have, for a very long time, gotten away with rhetoric and failing to deliver, and it’s over. From 1997 to 2010 in opposition they could be all “we’re proper right wingers” without much of a challenge, and even for a while in parliament, people gave them a bit of a chance, but it’s over. Talk to the average Reform voter, they see right through the Conservatives.

My guess is that Reform are going to grow in the Midlands and the North.

  18. But Reform aren’t even slightly a right wing party. Just less left of centre. The UK has the problem that the electorate who would espouse right wing views are led to believe they should be ashamed of their own opinions. It’s possible to debate any position on the left no matter how extreme. To the right, it’s immediately shut down. It’s even legally impossible.
