Word, this is a surprise

PwC is facing a backlash from its own staff amid allegations that Middle Eastern partners prevented the appointment of a woman as the firm’s new boss.

Senior partners in London are understood to believe that voters at the firm’s offices in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other parts of the Middle East played a decisive role in the victory of Marco Amitrano over his two female rivals.

It follows a lengthy process to elect a new senior partner for PwC UK and Middle East, one of the most important – and best-paid – positions in the global accounting firm.

D’ye mean that foreigners, working in foreign, are diverse in their views?

Shocker, eh?

  1. I suppose it’s a bit of a problem to succeed in your strive for diversity when one of your diverse imports believes in a sky fairy who has told them to kill everyone who doesn’t believe in said sky fairy…

  2. “Middle Eastern partners prevented the appointment of a woman as the firm’s new boss.”

By voting for their preferred candidate.

    Outrageous.

  3. Are we to assume that the Woman must always get the job? Were these women with a history of achievement at PwC or were they parachute women, like Paula Vennels, or Dame Empty-Shelves at Waitrose or the boss of the New York Fire Department?

  4. A lot of assumptions about why a ME partner might vote in a certain way. Sounds a bit racist TBH. Are the complainers seriously suggesting a removal of the vote or a reduction in the weight of voting from duskier partners?

  5. Senior partners in London are understood to believe that voters at the firm’s offices in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other parts of the Middle East played a decisive role in the victory of Marco Amitrano over his two female rivals.

God forgive me for saying this, but maybe Marco Amitrano was just “better” in some way than the other candidates who may-or-may-not be women (don’t want to prejudge, after all).

  6. Middle Eastern partners prevented the appointment of a woman as the firm’s new boss.

    Extremely based, Inshallah.

  7. “ D’ye mean that foreigners, working in foreign, are diverse in their views?”

But, but… “isn’t diversity our strength”?

  8. Including two women (real ones for a change nowadays) in the final three was pretty astute as neither of them were ever going to stand back for the greater good of the power skirt movement.
