Here’s some money for Canadians to save

Israel has destroyed or damaged 80% of schools in Gaza. This is scholasticide
Chandni Desai

Where’s this idea coming from then?

Chandni Desai is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto who teaches in the critical studies in equity and solidarity program

A program that can be usefully closed down then.

  1. As Palestinians were commemorating the 76th anniversary of their ongoing forced dispossession and expulsion from their native lands, known in Arabic as the Nakba, Israeli forces bombed six United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa) schools in Jabalia in northern Gaza, burned one in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, and destroyed three schools and burned another in the Zaytoun neighbourhood of Gaza City

    Based.

Similarly, an Israeli soldier recently filmed himself walking through the ruins of al-Azhar University, mocking scholasticide and rejoicing in the occupation’s destruction of the university. “We’re starting a new semester,” he said, adding: “It’ll start never.”

    Oxford and Cambridge next, please.

according to UN experts and the Palestinian ministry of education and higher education, Israeli military operations have killed at least 5,479 students, 261 teachers and 95 university professors in Gaza

First they came for the lecturers,
And I said: “I hope you get all the lecturers”.

For Palestinians, educational spaces have historically functioned as important sites for learning, revolutionary struggle, cultural preservation, connection across fragmented geographies and a cornerstone for empowering society towards liberation, particularly for refugees

So universities are enemy command and control centres.

    Good to know.

I don’t do a ‘comment of the month’ on my blog but if I did, you’d win June!

  3. Here’s a better example of the wilful destruction of an education system – https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd1ddegp8zvo

The teaching unions claim it’s, in part, due to “forced closure of schools during the pandemic”. This being the same people who claimed that they “saved lives” during the pandemic after urging ministers to prolong school closures – https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/03/teachers-brag-lives-saved-by-forcing-covid-school-closures/

Still, at least it’s all a circus to keep the proles occupied…

    Outstanding.

They’re a bit late to the party. Shirley Williams almost single-handedly destroyed the education system in England and Wales decades ago!

  6. Thank you Julia and Rowdy

BiW – Yarp, I was also thinking while I read the article “ah, that famously academic people, the Palestinians…”

They produce Islamic grievance studies scholars, but what else?

  7. @Steve “They produce Islamic grievance studies scholars, but what else?”- suicide bombs don’t make themselves you know.

You’ve heard of those rocket engineers floating over on dinghies? (I don’t know where the brain surgeons are coming from however)
